Hi,

I have been proposed for the post of secretary of our local breed club.  I am quite interested to give it a go, and the breeders of my girl are on the committee and one of them has previously held the secretary role and they have said they will give me help/support.

I just wondered really how much of a task this is and what would be involved.  They hold one open and one champ show a year as well as a fun day, walks and other events.

I am a very organised person by nature and quite fancy the opportunity, but want to consider the role before saying yes then feeling overwhelmed.

Thanks!

K

There is alot involved with being a secretary.
Your life can get overtaken by 'club stuff' some secs get phone calls at allsorts of times of the day about a wide range of items(which the caller thinks is important).

Lexy is quite correct in what she says. However I would say check what is involved and why the last secretary left and if you are happy with everything-go for it!
Jeff.

I was called for my tea mid flow.

A breed sec job is slightly more easy, as there is no weekly training/ringcraft or monthly matches that some general clubs run.

Even with the offered help some things only a secretary can do & it is hard to say, quite how much work is involved. To have been proposed I am assuming you are already on the committee so know a little about 'behind the scenes'. Mind you 17 years of being on committees didn't prepare me for a breed sec job.

It is good that you ask the question, as it proves you are thinking about the club.
