Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Is discharge at day 25 normal
- By xSuEx [gb] Date 12.10.09 15:41 UTC
My bitch was mated on 17th September, so she is currently on day 25. She is due to got to the vets on Friday to confirm wether or not she is in whelp. Today I have noticed a small amount of white mucus discharge coming from her vulva.
I have the book of the bitch which says discharge is normal from around day 35. Should I be worried that she has a discharge earlier than this?

I think clear or whitish is ok - lucky you! :-)

My bitch now on Day 61 has had discharge spotting (she kindly left it on her fleece) throughout the pregnancy and from about Day 35 onwards I recall, so long as clear/opague then should be nothing to worry about, good luck witht he vets, take it you are going for a scan?

My bitch had a clear sticky discharge on day 23.  Only reason I noticed it was she had been laying on a black mat and it almost looked like the trail mark a snail leaves behind.  I checked her and it was from her.  She hasnt had anymore since that day and is now on day 48.

Thanks for the replies. I feel a bit more reasured now.
She is having a scan on Friday. From what I've read on other posts they can be a bit hit and miss, but it is only to confirm things.

Same here :)  My bitch is now on day 40 of her pregnancy and she had a couple of days of discharge about a week and a half ago.  As long as its not green or smelly, she should be fine :)  I've found that it seems to be there for a day and disappear for a few ;)  I had my bitch scanned on day 28 and we saw 6 little round blobs quite clearly so hopefully your scan will be the same. :)

A useful topic I feel but just to reassure, from my experience the clear/opague discharge is a good sign, what you need to keep an eye on is any coloured discharge or smelly.  We had a bitch leave us some black offensive smelly discharge last year at around day 48, a sign things were not right and sadly she failed to continue with the pregnancy, it was not meant to be but when we saw the small deposit it was straight to the vets, scan and then a wait for either full term delivery/absorbtion or in our case, the feotus' had broken down and we ended up with a C section and spaying, thankfully bitch now fully recovered.  The colour and smell is the telling point, it was black/brown and very smelly!

Good luck with the scan

Don't like any green tingeing. Green to me signals infection so I would be off to the vets for some Synulox or Noroclav. Particularly if there is a smell as well.  Doesn't have to be a knock you dead type of smell, just a definate smell.

I think you are referring to the colour similar to that from a childs nose! This is the colour I measure as ok, however if smelly, darker green that this then I would visit the vet just to be safe
