I think that must have been a full honours degree bunty ! Will look at that site would like a pair but cant afford the full price and am not too bothered about the label thingy I will leave that to my daughter. just need abit of fashion and being able to walk warm and comfortably would be wonderful LOL
- By suejaw Date 06.10.09 12:40 UTC
Honeybee just looked at the link you posted.
The price of those boots are pretty much the same as what you would pay in the States for UGG's themselves. Again there is a delivery charge as there would be if you purchased them from a legit site located in the States. If they were that much cheaper then i may look to convert..
Off to check the boots HG has to see if i can be converted there
- By Perry Date 06.10.09 15:49 UTC
I love Uggs because they are so warm and comfortable, I am on my second black pair which I purchased from Selfridges in Manchester a couple of months ago - beware of buying black as the dye from the sheepskin stains your feet, even if you only wear them for an hour or two and don't get them wet!  I am contemplating returning them for a light colour so I don't get inky black feet!  This did not happen to the celt boots I had which were from celt sheepskin, proving to me some of the copies are just as good or better than the real thing!

>beware of buying black as the dye from the sheepskin stains your feet, even if you only wear them for an hour or two

I agree with that one, it does stop after a year or so though ;)

Oh all the best people are wearing them! ( ;-) ) See me and 'Mossy' got in there before Sienna Miller!! :-D :-P :-D

Thanks HG, I think I can wait a few more weeks! Need to stop looking at them online & tempting myself though!!

Honeybee, I just looked at the Celtic sheepskin site you put up, I've fallen in love with this coat. http://www.celtic-sheepskin.co.uk/ladies/ladies-coats/hooded-toscana-sheepskin-coat/ think I've found my Christmas present. :-)

Trouble is, opinions please as the interior and hood look like real fur in which case I wouldn't want it.
- By HuskyGal Date 06.10.09 18:13 UTC
I did too Carrington!! Its divine!! *Drool*

The lining is Sheepskin you Ninny!! not fur :-D
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 06.10.09 18:13 UTC
The fleece inside and in the hood is as it says - TOSCANA - from the Toscana sheep (from Italy) :)

I googled it!!! :d
- By HuskyGal Date 06.10.09 18:17 UTC
Hahahaha... who's the 'Ninny' Now :-O Sorry!! I meant sheep fleece not sheep skin doh!
- By furriefriends Date 06.10.09 18:32 UTC
You certainly started something with this thread gembo ! Looked at the hartings ones they look great and only £55.00 /£65.00 Just one question do the go soft at the heel or should they stay firm I hate that sloopy sideways look you get when boots or shoes have no heel shape
And yes that coat is georgeous just wish I was a size 12 and had the money being a bit bigger I might look like the sheep is still wearing it LOl
Hope you get your chrissy pressie

> Hahahaha... who's the 'Ninny' Now :-o Sorry!! I meant sheep fleece not sheep skin doh!

No - still not a Ninny!!

It does say 100% Toscana Sheepskin - which presumably is actual sheep skin...

Love the boots on this site :)

>the interior and hood look like real fur in which case I wouldn't want it.

What's the difference between wearing leather and wearing sheepskin? They're the same thing, only one's still got all the hair on!
- By allaboutme_79 Date 06.10.09 19:32 UTC
I got told that Muklak boots were lined with rabbit or fox fur and had paid farms to keep up with the demand. Not sure how true that was though.
- By Carrington Date 06.10.09 20:03 UTC

On the bad side, I am now standing in the corner, with a very large Ninny hat on! :-D

On the good side, hubby just said he'll get me it for Xmas - can't wait. :-) I didn't know what I wanted this year, CD always comes in handy. :-)
- By HuskyGal Date 06.10.09 20:07 UTC
I'm quite sure in every industry there is the good, the bad and the ugly.. I think most consumers are quite savvy now about this though arn't they, we all heard of the Panorama program that exposed Primark's exploitation of child forced labour showing an 11-year-old Tamil girl at the Bhavani Sagar refugee camp is shown sewing sequins on a shirt from the Secret Possessions range, and we check our Tuna in the supermarket etc etc.....
There's the ethical and the unethical, I think the consumer knows these days to be aware and responsible in their purchases if thats what they want to do ;)

edited to say: in response to allaboutme (But we best not go off topic!)

The ones I have from Hartings - no they don't slop sideways, the heels have stayed firm and still are firm and that is with regular wearing. They are reinforced, if you look at the pictures you should be able to see what I mean. Some of the cheap ones seen in shops over here don't have that and they are the ones that slop sideways from what I have seen.

Someone mentioned the colour coming off on their feet, that shouldn't happen. Apparently there are two ways to do the 'dying' part, doing it one way does make them more susceptible to the colour coming out and the other way doesn't. Hartings (I asked them) use the process where the colour doesn't come out. (Sorry I can't remember the site I saw the process being explained on, otherwise I would put a link here for you). I have the Oxford/tall chocolate colour ones (inside and out) and the dye has never come off on my feet. (may be it is just the black ones that do this, I can't remember now, but it is down to the process used).

Which ever ones you get, remember to waterproof them before wearing. (I think they tell you to do that on the care label that comes with them though).

When I want my next pair, I will be going back to Hartings - good price for the genuine article, made in NZ. (I don't need the designer label.) (and I think I should add, I am not affiliated to Hartings in any way, I only heard about them from the moneyaving forum)

I've never understood the difference with rearing and killing animals for meat or their fur.  As humans we don't actually need either and so as long as they are kept with care and consideration and killed humanely, I have no problem with wearing sheepskin, leather or fur. :)
- By Perry Date 07.10.09 08:37 UTC
It's sheepskin Carrington :)  I've had the toscana boots, had a black pair a few years ago and last year got the mocca ones, in fact they are on my feet as I type!

Carrington can i please borrow your hubby for christmas lol he sounds very generous!!
- By allaboutme_79 Date 07.10.09 09:38 UTC
Ahhhh no, Im not one of these anti-fur people....I have a friend that hates the whole fur trade yet has no problem sitting in a certain fast food place serving chicken and wearing leather shoes, she says theres a difference though !

As comfy as rabbit fur would be, my 7 year old would never speak to me again if she realised mummy had rabbits keeping her feet warm :)

Ahhhh......... I know he is a real treasure, he's one of those men who gets a real kick out of buying me something I really want. I've had to deprive him some years as I honestly just don't want anything, apart from the present that we always make each other, I know he is often disappointed when I just say get me a perfume hun. :-D

So weirdly enough, I've just made his Christmas too. And I'm seriously looking at the matching boots.....................
- By jackbox Date 07.10.09 12:42 UTC
now see what you have started,

Just  window shopped a fortune on the site, love this cardigan, and  the big suede belts, not to mention the bags

http://images.celtic-sheepskin.co.uk/img/lib/plge/746.jpg

Oh, and been promising myself a pair of Uggs for  a few yrs now, and am going to treat myself to a pair this time round.

Fashion be damned, at my age comfort is what counts.. and by all accounts they are
- By AliceC Date 07.10.09 14:41 UTC
Hi Gembo,

I live in my Uggs - love them!! I got a pair of chestunt classic talls from Schuh, I think I (well, I say 'I' but my OH bought them for me) paid full whack for them at £170, 2 years on though they are still going strong, despite an unfortuntate incident with my new puppy mistaking them for a toilet (anyone who knows me on facebook will understand!!!)

Anyway - wantd a couple more pairs a few months ago but didn't want to pay full price for them, luckily for me I have an Aunt who lives in Australia and she kindly sent me some, they took forever to get here but they are just like the real deal, except for the label is slightly different on the back as mine are genuine Australian ones rather than the "Made In Australia" ones which are actually American I think!! They worked out at about £70 a pair.

These are my Australian ones: http://www.uggmaker.com.au/en/index.jsp - they do all the same colours as the 'normal' ones, I got the beige ones and the black ones.

HTH :-)

P.S. HuskyGal, you must have money to burn with your Mukluks, they are next on my wish list....Birthday this month...
- By gembo [gb] Date 07.10.09 15:21 UTC
Thanks for the link AliceC, they are cheaper £105 but when you factor in postage at $100! it's no cheaper & at least if I buy them for a shop I can wear them straight away! Thank you anyway!

I need to keep up pestering my OH, he's already weakening & it's only been a couple of days, I'll have them by the end of the month -  I hope!
- By AliceC Date 07.10.09 15:35 UTC
Oooh really, I think my Aunt must have found a cheaper way of posting them, that's really expensive!! Sorry, I didn't realise it'd be that much!

Keep up the pestering - good to hear he's weakening!! If he's anything like mine he can be easily persuaded :-) Good luck!! I'd definitely go for real Uggs though as they really do last...

Hi, apologies if any has already suggested here but I only quickly scanned the replies!

I was at Costco earlier today (American wholesalers in case some don't know) and they have them in there now, for tall classics they are just under £150, and for cardi's they are about £107.00.

Do you know if that is including VAT? Would still be a bit cheaper (£172.50) even if it wasn't though! Do you need trade cards for Costco?
- By diane74 [gb] Date 07.10.09 16:00 UTC

Yes it was with the VAT included.

> Do you need trade cards for Costco?

I have a trade card but you can apply for a personal card, off the top of my head I can't remember what you need to take but I'll have a peek on the website and let you no.

Hi Gembo

I love my uggs!! Am planning on buying a new pair in the next week or so. The cheapest place I found was at the designer outlet near us and they have a danil footwear shop which is slightly cheaper with it being in the designer outlet!! It means you can also go and try them rather than buying them off the net.

Ah Croydon would be the nearest.. Will have to have a think on that... Maybe make the most of it with a trip to Ikea.

Anyone who doesn't like UGG boots can't have ever owned a pair! They are fantastic boots, if only I could wear something else for a change lol
I even wore them to work for a week when I had blisters from a weekend out. I live in mine, they are money very spent in my eyes :o)
- By Whistler [gb] Date 26.10.09 15:37 UTC
Ive got a pair of non UGGS from the celtic sheep store mine are shorties and bright purple, BUT they make my feet ache. Its a bit like wearing wellies they have no support and youngsters I have seen wearing the cheapie versions walk over very badly.

BUT again for a cold cold rugby match they are toasty I just cant really walk far in them mine were about £90, under trousers or nice thick tights in the winter i think they look fab. But Im biased I have had mine about 2 years and they are still pristine, but the cheaper ones look just that cheap!!
- By Whistler [gb] Date 26.10.09 15:38 UTC

This is what puts me off the classic UGGs, and I'm loathed to shell out for little more than flipflop soles! Plus the world and his whippet are wearing them... But... I love the whole snuggly sheepskin thing!!

Soooo Ive found the perfect solution!! Ugg 'Langley' Boots Much better value for money in my mind, they arrived on Friday... I've lived in them since them.... 6 women stopped me on the tube today to ask where I bought them... and they are very comfy, lovely soft leather. I feel a bit 'edgier' with these and I can still plough through puddles with the dogs in them!

Carrington.... I reckon they'd go well with your coat!! ;-)
- By ShaynLola Date 26.10.09 21:20 UTC
Oooh Liv....they're goooooorgeous!!  I'm very jealous!  I doubt they'd fit my chunky calves though :-( *sigh*  Maybe next year.... :-)
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 26.10.09 22:27 UTC
I love them too but no way would my fat legs fit in them - or Uggs come to that :-D My daughter has bearpaw ones from TK Maxx, she wears them indoors as slippers though, not outdoors as they are pale pink, but they are very cosy :-D
- By cambria Date 26.10.09 22:31 UTC

BUT they are more money than UGG classics...

Blimey!

My daughter was looking at UGG boots this week.  One store in Aberdeen has the classic tall ones in Chestnut for £200 yet on the UGG website they're £57.71.  I can't believe anyone still buys on the high street with prices differences like this one...

Are they real though??????? They look too good to be true, very similar to the ones in the link I first posted. What does everyone think? Are they real?

The link doesn't work for me but, looking at the URL, that site looks like it's a fake to me.  Be very careful if you are ordering on-line as there are only a few approved Ugg Australia retailers but hundreds and hundreds of sites selling fakes.  You can generally save a few quid buying on-line usually but the discounts on Uggs aren't significant so if it seems to good to be true...it's a fake!

*edited to add*...just looked at the URL again and I'm certain it's a fake site (or, rather, a site selling fakes).

Do you know - it never occurred to me to think this was a site selling fakes!!  I'm used to being suspicious of small retailers, on eBay for instance, that I didn't think about fakes on this kind of scale!!

There is so much to wary of isn't there?!
