Hi. I've got a 15month old collie cross on trial. She's a sweet girl but with several issues ie determind cat chaser, servere car sickness, seperation anxiety. She has a fixation on toys and shadows. She was spayed in April. I've noticed since she's been with me, when she gets up after lying down, she dribbles a few drops of urine. I've been told this will not get better but will get worse as she gets older. I know there are drugs to help but after dealing with my last little dog, (some of you may remember my girl with GME) I do not want to start again with a dog that needs medication from day one. Does anyone know if there is a surgical proceedure that could correct this problem?

Hi

My collie has had this problem since she was spayed at 10 months old, started off having propalin and is now on 'hold it' herds by csj and hasn't leaked for quite some time. She is nearlly 8 now. As far is now there is no surgical procedure to correct the problem as it has something to do with weak pelvic muscles holding the urine in. Something like that anyway.

there is a procedure for spay incontinence.
my last bitch has to have it done twice . its called colpo suspension although i may have spelled that wrong.
it is very major surgery , painful for the dog and needs doing by a very experienced surgeon, not normal vet.
the vet repositions the bladder further back altering the tensions round the neck and stitches everything in place.  worked on my girl, first time made improvement but she was still leaking badly, after second op was very little leakage-table spoon prehapse rather then the constant dribbling she had after her spay . (unfortnatly as her anatomy had been rearranged during spay no amount of drugs would help)
it is though very major surgery. she had to have a lot of tests previous to op, a week in vet hospital, came home with 30 staples down belly and 6 weeks strict cage/lead exersise-no leaping about.
and was very very expensive.
try the drugs. they work on a lot of dogs. much kinder .
