Mum has been fine and coped really well with the whole ordeal of having pups and rearing them.Today however started normally, she had her breakfast fed and cleaned them as usual but then we have taken out 3 of the rails(left the back one in as that is where she lays flat to feed them) and extended the pen as the pups are on their feet and moving round, since then then she has been fussy about eating (had to spoon feed her). After she had settled into the new routine and box we had our first viewers, she was fab said hello and made a fuss alls well, when they left i gave her a treat chew and she wolfed it but 20mins later has vomited back up and is now quite and sleeping with her pups. Do you think it could be a bit of stress??

she has been sick again!! looks really down in the dumps she also had some puppy milk before that was made to puppy strength, the pups had most but mum finished it, that however has not come back I have also jsut been informed that before I gave her her chew she has had a fair few marrow biscuits from my mum (typical) am now wondering if it is a case of too many sweets syndrome but worried it might be more? I have cooked some chicken for her as she needs to eat for her pups.
could she be regurgitating for puppies?
Hi Rowena
Hopefully you'll get someone on with a bit of experience soon - there are a lot of very knowledgable folk on here but some might have been showing or working today so not back yet.
A couple of bits of info that might help them answer: am I right in thinking your bitch had a C section? How is her wound now? Also I see the pups are only 20 days old today, could mum be agitated on their behalf? Did you allow your visitors to handle the pups?
Hope you get some help soon :)

her wound is fine and has healed really well, the visitors did handle the pups yes, she seemed ok with this, she is sat shivering now!!
Being sick for the puppies to eat.
If they are only 20 days old do you think its wise to have visitors yet? id suggest 4 and half weeks, they are old enough to be judged on personality and they have started to be weaned also and are running about.

There will not be any more till they are older put it that way this time was an exception. I don,t think she was regurgitating for the pups as it was out side the pen, she has slight shakes now too.

Please can someone help me out here, ok so perhaps I made a booboo allowing visitors today but thats not what this is about, we all make mistakes.
Mum is feeding the pups as I type but is refusing to eat have offered her some cooked chicken, I would not be as concerned her going without for a day if she were not feeding the pups, She ate this morning and had her dinner from a spoon.

has she got a temp? I would be inclined to call the out of hours vets as you don't want her to pass anything on to the pups at such a young age (thats if she has picked up a bug) or for her to start to dehydrate as her milk will dry up which is alittle bit early yet. The vets may want to give her some antibiotics.... I would give them a call it is better to be safe than sorry with such young pups around. Let us know how things go. :-)

She has not got a temp, have just got off the phone with the vet and she has told me to offer her water, if she keeps it down twice then to offer her half strength welpi ( i have skinners), if she is sick after water and does not eat by 8 am then I am to take her in also to suppliment the pups if needs be. I told her what had gone on today and she thinksit is down to the stress of the day. She has fed the pups and is now fast asleep next to me.
Thanks for all your help and advice XX
I never had ant of this with my first litter 3 yrs ago :(

could be stress as it is a bit early for people to come and touch the puppies at 20 days I dont allow anyone until at least 4 wks other on her I know wait until 5 wks .
Keep an eye on her temp , keep her away from the puppies for at least half an hour after feeding Mum if you are weaning as she will regurgitate her food for them. Keep her fluids up .
Is she doing a lot of grooming as sometime the fur can make them sick. check out her mouth for ulcers . If you can get a urine sample to the vet , and check her for any smelly discharge.
If she has the shakes this could be down to her calcium levels give her some ice cream or put some milk in the freezer until it is ice cold and give her some.
All bitches are different and they can even be different with each litter.
I would suggest that this is all down to stress. I left my girl with her singleton pup last week for a couple of hours (im normally with her all the time). When I can in she had been sick everywhere, didnt have a temperature and seemed ok in herself. I kept a good eye on her, she didnt eat for a while but was drinking and the pup seemed happy.
The following day all was back to normal.
I would suggest that you dont let anyone visit the pups until they are at least 4 weeks old. I know potential owners want to see their babies but I always just explain to them that no one seems them until this time.
I would take her to the vet as one of my bitches started to vomit and shake when her pups were 3 weeks. She also started to have problems with co ordination. I took her straight to the vets and they gave her a shot of calcium and she was fine after. I always give my bitches calcium after a litter now. Not saying thats what it is but always better to be safe.
Hope she starts to feel better soon!! xx

How is she?
I have experienced this and my girl had eclampsia, this needs to been seen by a vet immediately.
If i had a bitch that was vomiting and shivering i would have her straight to the vets, i hope your girl is ok

She is absolutely fine today has been given small meals every two hours mainly consisting of chicken, everything has stayed put and the pups are all content, I did speak to the vet again this morning and she is happy too.
