Hi all, this is our first post on CD! I have had a good rummage around the site and I have found the information very helpful!
Teddy our new Choc Lab puppy is coming home in a few weeks and I am just wondering about food for him.
He is currently being fed on Jameswellbeloved Lamb & rice kibble, of which we have read great things however I was a little concerned to learn that they test on animals! With that in mind can any one reccomend a great food for him?

Whatever the ethics, you really don't need to be chopping and changing when pup comes home.  You will risk digestive upsets.  He needs to be fed whatever he is used to eating while he settles down.

i wouldn't change food straight away as your upset his tummy but if you decide to in time then make sure you do it over a couple of weeks by replacing a small amount with the new food so his tummy has chance to get used to it.
why don't you ask the breeder if there's any other food she's suggest if you want to change.

Welcome and good news about the pup - congratulations!

Do they?  If you are sure of your info do you know what level of testing is meant by that?  It could be as innocuous as tasting rather than testing the food on animals.  The testing element could be observations of behaviour and testing output (urine and fecal matter).  I only ask as I read a few years ago about internet rumours that almost put a food company out of business.  All well and good if it's fact but so much gets distorted, then repeated.  It's also worth considering that it may be one element they buy in that is tested, rather than being their whole ethos.

After your research, if you do decide not to proceed with this food then do not make the change immediately.  Keep him on what works well for the breeder and follow their advice about alternative foods and the timescales involved.

If you come back for specifics later you'll find there are as many food recommendations as there are dogs!!  Might be simpler to start with breeder advice :)

Good Luck with your Teddy!  We have Hershey-Kisses she is a chocolate and 2 now.

I can recommend Skinners Salmon and Rice or Duck and Rice, they do Puppy food too!.  It is a Hypoallergenic food made in the UK.  We had problems with Hershey's poo being sloppy and the vet recommended a Hypoallergenic food. It is a working dog feed and she is lovely and healthy we get comments everywhere we take her on her coat and how fit she is. 

Another bonus is that it is alot cheaper than other feeds and no matter how much we love her we have to be realistic with money.

I don't know if they test it on animals sorry.

i was wondering the same... it is dog food after all, i'd hope some testing was done on animals- along the lines of "do the dogs like it? how is there condition on it?"

I wouldn't want to give my dogs anything that hadn't been proven to be safe for dogs ...
