I'm going on safari next year, what injections do you need, and how much do they cost, does a Doctor have to do them??

Check on the government site for up to date requirements.  They will certainly say that you'll need malaria protection but do start them early in case you need a different one before you travel.

I had the weekly tablet 10 days before I went and it affected my nervous system - I couldn't possibly drive and my hands were moving on their own!
I then started the low dose antibiotic, and had an allergic reaction to them only kept under control by a daily Piriton taken at the other end of the day to the malaria tablet!  I'm not allergic to anything and have never reacted to anything before.  Although the instruction is to continue for 10 days after you come home, the dispenser stopped them as soon as I got back when he saw my legs! :(  10 out of the 16 people on my safari had problems with their malaria tablets!

Having spoken to English people who had lived in Kenya for 30 years, I'd do things differently if I went again. :)

Depends on what safari you are going on, some are malaria free, so you would need to check that out. If its the Kruger, then yes i would get the tablets. Other than that unless something changes soon then i wouldn't be having any jabs going there.

Hi Kenya,
We went to Zimbabwi 4 years ago for a family wedding. I cannot remember what we had but if you speak to the Dr they will know. You can go online too to find out. Don't forget the anti-malaria tablets too.
I hope you have a great time, we did, I have to say it was our best holiday ever, and the wildlife was wonderfull. Victoria falls is something else and OH white water rafted down 24 km of it and I have never seen him so tired and exhillerated ever! I went walking in the bush with some young lions (18mths) and it was like taking the dogs out...but scary!... to walk through the African bush with a couple of huge lions was a memory I shall take to my grave!...and I have the pictures to proove it! the holiday picture of a lifetime is of me sat next to, and with my hand resting on the back of a loiness in the middle of the bush.
Have a great time and take a really good camera..one with a powerfull zoom is great, take some powerfull binoculars too, you will need them and will be using them constantly.
Make sure you take some insect repellant and some nice warm cardigans, those early morning safari's can be very chilly to begin till the sun get going..then it's very hot, ditto the evening ones.

I have some pictures of my tiger cubs from when I was a zoo keeper. When my kids are getting uppity I get them out to prove I was not always so boring.

My trip was very similar, included Sweetwaters which was my favourite and Treetops which I could have done without.  You'll have a wonderful time. :)  I've worked for airlines and travelled extensively, but without doubt, the Kenyan Safari was my trip of a lifetime!  Enjoy. :)

We did a Safari in Kenya in January, you need all the usual, Typhoid, Hepatitis (can't remember which one though), Tetanus, you do also need Yellow Fever, although we wasn't actually asked to see evidence. Malaria tablets as well, we used Malarone, 1 a day for the duration of the holiday plus for a week following. They're quite pricey, but have the lowest level of side effects, if you do go with these shop around, I got mine off the internet at about a 3rd of the price from the local pharmacy. I recommended them to our travelling companions who were seriously considering not taking anything due to previous bad reactions to another type and they were fine too.

I hope you enjoy the safari. We had a ball.
