Topic Dog Boards / General / Bag for crate
- By CVL Date 20.09.09 14:31 UTC
Just wondering if anyone knows where I can get a bag to carry a wire dog crate?  Just realised today they're really not too easy to drag around.  I've seen some on an American site, but struggling to find anything in the UK.

Thanks,

Clare

most wire crates have a hard plastic handle , you would be better investing in a trolley to put all your gear in and you can have your crate open or closed  and pull it along save on straining yourself carrying a crate.   http://www.doghealth.co.uk/trolleys.htm

I would also say get a trolley.  The little pull along ones where at the bottom thiere is like a little fold down shelf sort of thing works brilliantly and I bet is a lot cheaper than a pet company would sell them for at say a DIY place or the like.

My crate does have a handle, but it can only be used when it's up, not when folded flat... and it's too big to carry open.  As for the trolley, you're probably right, but I think I'd be dangerous with a trolley.... even in the supermarket I've caused a few injuries!!

Trust me, my steering is awful but I can control a trolley. Load it up with the crate, all your bags, seats etc, strap it all down with bungee ropes and off you go.

Trollys are great - and cheap.  I used to load mine up with everything, it was so much easier to control the dogs if everything was on the trolly.  Get one with big wheels though so you can drag it over rough ground.  I dont use mine much anymore as I have the baby, I put baby in her carrier on my front and load up her pram with everything else - I look like a proper bag lady !!!

Apparently Homebase do a good rigid trolley.. you know the kind that delivery companys use.. for around £20.. I am thinking of investing in one of these.. super for carrying 3 metal crates around.. but also bags and other bits'n'bobs.. all in one trip..

(I say apparently, because I have not been to homebase yet.. but at a local show a few weeks ago.. we were discussing this issue, and someone overhearing our conversation.. kindly told us where she had seen them ) :-)

Oooh that's good to know and have a looksee...

I have a fishing trolley bought a good few years ago for £30.
Called a TuffTruk, it's been brilliant and has massive wheels and has been a great allround
trolley to use.

I've now upgraded to 42" cages for my Boxers the metal ones....and they are now a bit too big to
use the trolley with ease (the cages are 22kgs each). I think a flat trolley would be easier as you can
cart it all in on the one trip whereas the show we went to last thursday had one trip with just cages,
two trips with the show bags etc and then two trips bringing in the dogs lol.
Whereas with a flat trolley could have done it with just three trips :)
(Thankgoodness had the OH with me)

My only problem is getting a trolley where I can remove the wheels etc so that it can fit on the back seats with the 2x42" cages and other bags..
plus isn't too expensive and doesn't fall apart when pulling some weight :)

I use a strap of a luggage bag, clip on both ends of the cage and I can then carry it over my shoulder,
I find they are more awkward rather than heavy if carrying by the little handle and it cuts into your hand.
