my thirteen year old collie bitch has arthritis, and is on norocarp and glucosamine, she also has a magnetic collar, and still manages three shortish walks a day, even chases a ball a little way!for about the last year, she has been dragging her back feet,so i have to tape socks to her feet(or pawz direct boots)or she grazes her knuckles.its a long shot, but does anyone know of anything else i could do to help her please?
Is it a Bioflow Collar and how much glucosamine are you giving?
no,just an ordinary magnetic one, would a bioflow help more?the glucosamine is in zipvits flexajoint,as she tolerates it well.she has got a bit sensitive with age and tends to get the trots with high doses of glucosamine(even those joint aiid chews did)i had to take her off omega 3 fish oil for the same reason.
I was bought a magnetic bracelet from Boots and it made no difference. My daughter then bought me a Bioflow and I've not taken it off since! Their magnets are much stronger than most others. Just fridge magnets aren't good enough. :) There are some Bioflows on Ebay at the moment quite reasonable.
Do you give 2 x Flexajoints? She'd need at least 800mg to be effective. The fillers in ZipVit stuff seems to uspet many dogs and humans...... Natures Best use high quality ingredients.

First I would throw the magnets in the bin...
Has she been x-rayed to diagnose arthritis?
I have a dog we always assumed had arthritis who also dragged her feet, but it turned out to be a completely different problem.(also elderly border collie).
Is she on any NSAID(meta cam)? does it make a difference?
If shes been diagnosed with arthritis through X-ray have you throught about Catrophen injections?
Does she have any strange patterns to her movments?
Whitch joints are affected/whitch type of arthritis?
thanks,i have ordered a bioflow collar from ebay.she has 2 flexajoints, but i will have a look at natures best.if they upset her,i could always take them, being in a similar boat to flyss!thanks a lot for taking the time to reply!
being in a similar boat to flyss!
"Snap" says she, having just drunk her honey and cider vinegar! :) Bioflow sorts my hands and the cider vinegar sorts my feet!
My daughter has an old arthritic Rough Collie. I can always tell by the way she moves if they've groomed her and forgotten to put her Bioflow back on again! :(
she is on norocarp,i dont know if thats similar to the nsaids you mentioned, she hasnt been xrayd ,after she had a persistant limp a few years ago,my vet said it was arthritis, but when her back legs started to weaken.i took her back(forgot to mention, shes had several courses of cartrophen, which help the weakness quite a lot, although not the foot thing)my vet said pain could be causing the weakness, and put her on the norocarp.front end sways a bit as she plods along, she occasionallywobbles a bit on her back end,but i think thats mainly due to the weak back legs.apart from that, she just gets on with being a collie, albeit a slow one now, which is sad for me,but she seems happy enough which is the main thing, her front feet are enlarged, the vet said, again, caused by arthritis, also her front legs are very strong,to compensate for her back ones i suppose,if they go,shes in trouble!its just these back feet,i mean, its no trouble to put socks on her before her walks, just wondered if there was anything else i could try.the vet suggested perhaps she couldnt bring her legs forward enough to put her foot down flat, but she does, its whenshe moves off it turns over.anyway, sorry this is so long!and thanksvery much for taking the time to answer!

I have heard alot of people have had success with the product joint aid. We did swimming therapy for our dog that helped alot with mobility and keeping the muscles strong to support the legs. The other thing we did use just for a short time to get us through a difficult couple of weeks was prescription drug previcox in our case it was a wonder drug
ive heard of joint aid, could you let me know who makes it please?unfortunatly, swimming therapy isnt an option as ive no car, though im sure itd help.i wonder ifgentle massage would have a similar effect?thanks for your reply.
notice its in powder form, any probs with getting it down em?would you advise also giving it to my 6 months pup.in the hopes of fending off future problems?i feed arden grange, which has glucosamine in,although it didnt prevent flyss from getting arthritis.
I just feed it with a little tinned and the complete and it's all woofed down no problems :)
Hi
My westie Lucy started with a bit of a limp to back left leg. Thought she had strained it so was horrified when vet said she suspected arthritis, Lucy only being about 8 at the time. We had all the x-rays and tests done which were positive. She was put on Cosiquine and Tramadyl which is a Morphne derivative. She has been on these for a year nearly and is a different dog. Races around the fields with the others and you wouldn't know that she has arthritis. She has to be regularly monitored to make sure she is OK with the Tramadyl - but so far so good. At least she has a good quality of life. I think you just have to try lots of different treatments until you find one that suits.
Good luck

thankyou !i dont suppose she has that long left atnearly 14,but obviously,i want her to be as comfortable as possible.
ive just recieved my universal bioflow collar, and im a tad perturbed that it has no logo or anything to say it is actually a bioflow, much as i hate to be suspicious.i was warned itd come without packaging,to cut costs when posting.but i thought id check with you to see what you think.the collar is stripey, with a plastic"box"that houses the magnet,.its quite flimsy compared to the one ive just taken off,and i ve had to stitch the loose end in.none of this matters tuppence of course,as long as the collar is a bioflow.it was only 14 95 though.any thoughts, please?

Genuine Bioflow dog collars look like
this
been sold a pup then.watchout anybody buying one on ebay!thankyou, moonmaiden.
I think that if it was sold as a Bioflow and it isn't, then Ebay will say that you are entitled to your money back. They don't like their sellers conning buyers!
ive sent an enquiry to seller, and ordered a proper one from the site moonmaiden sent me,thanks v much not bothered about money back, just want the best for my lovely old mutt!
seller said it was an older model.
My old Bioflow collar for my old girl sadly departed 8 yrs ago this Oct had the black collar with the 'silver'
Bioflow word in the collar.... there wasn't the 'coloured' options that they had now.
Is that ok for an 'older' model.
TBH I think they are talking a load of old rot and hoping you 'swallow' their twaddle....grrrr

If the word Bioflow isn't somewhere on the collar than it isn't pukka, just spoken to a friend who sells them & she's being doing it for years, Bioflow collars always have the name on them somewhere & the back or front of the magnet cover should have Bioflow on it as well.
well, you live and learn!not bothered ,just hope thereal thing arrives soon.meanwhile,i think il put her old magnetic collar back on.shes also having joint aid as well as a flexajoint,so be nice to think she l be a bit more comfortable, got another course of cartrophen coming up as well.shes 14 next month!still wants to chase a ball,a collie to the end!thanks evryone for your help and advice!

I looked at those on eBay and glad I bought one direct now. I would complain as other people are going to get caught out as well. Or you could report it to the Manufacturers as bioflow is a reg trademark.
