Have been with BT broadband for many many years and use a thier wireless hub, I have just recently changed from the white older hub to the new smart black one BUT the internet seems to be much slower - kids are complaining!
It does seem slow to load pages etc.
anyone else had this? might go back to old white one.

Lorripop - we have also changed from white to black BT hub. Not had any problem with speed of web but the problem we have had with both of these so called wireless hubs is that we cannot get either of them to work wirelessly. Does yours work wirelessly staright out of the box or did you have to switch on wireless via some menu or other?
We actually bought a new black one to replace the white one as son wanted to use it wirelessly with PS3 and we couldn't get the white one to work wirelessly. Can't get the black one to work wirelessly either so ended up buying a very long ethernet cable and using it cabled instead.

Had our black one just over a year ago - went through the instructions and didn't have too much of a problem with one computer. However my computer has problems staying connected - it works fine for days on end then all of the sudden won't stay connected for more than a few minutes at a time. The telephone help service were pretty good - but couldn't suggest anything for my computer. These hubs should work straight away - when all the blue lights are on steady. As for speed - that varies day to day too.
No trouble with wireless connection, sometimes disconnection is a problem with the black one and i have to go through reconnection stuff.
this may sound really daft but do your computers have wireless connections? my laptop has a switch to turn it on and on the main computer we had wireless thingy fitted.
seems slightly better this evening from this morning speed wise.
can you plug in the printer in the black hub usb port and get 2 comps to print wirelessly??

I have a black one and have had no problems with it. Have you phoned BT? they are really helpful.
they are helpful if you get someone in this country otherwise the helpers all follow the same script for different problems and dont understand when you say you've already tried it!

ooh I know what you mean, ive had that problem with making enquiries about my landline.

Lorripop - one of our laptops is not wireless but I did buy the wireless adaptor from BT when we got the original white wireless hub. It is confusing as to whether to install it via BT broadband installation CD or the drivers that came with the wireless attachement. I have had it connect wirelessly for like 2 minutes (in the same room very near the hub) and then the connection just drops off. Other laptop is a newer Samsung and the wireless thing comes on automatically (it has a light on above the keyboard) but never suceeded in getting it to connect wirelessly at all. Not too bothered for the computers are they are used in the same room as the hub. It was son's PS3 which he wanted in his bedroom that was the real issue but couldn't get it to connect wirelessly either so used a long cable instead.
My dad is getting a new BT wireless hub today so will try connecting to his at some point and see how that works or not!
If your black hub is faulty I would send it back. Presumably you would need to try the white one again to see if is actually the hub and not just the net connection itself that may have slowed down for some reason.
Technology is great when it works! Does not do much for the blood pressure when it is not working though!!

This is really interesting to read - as on Saturday my laptop suddenly stopped working wirelessly! said connected but unable to connect to internet - got accused of changing something - worked connected via the cable ok? thought it was a firewall issue and then seemed to be sorted. But today the daughters pc also had the same problem - we had our old white hub and they both work fine. I will mention this to him as thought it might be a problem with the hub being faulty - interesting that others have had the same issue.

When mine won't connect my son told me to check the data encryption - it seems to change itself he thought. To get it to connect I swap this box around and wait each time until it connects or doesn't - that is from TKIP to AES or vice versa - back and forwards until one connects.
