Hi everyone,

I have a Malamutes and feed him raw, I have been ordering from Landywoods for a while now with no problems. Of late, I have noticed the quality of the food isn't as good. I mainly like to order bones and my dog won't touch the carcasses. I got my last order a few days ago, I defrosed 2 carcasses yesterday and my dog wouldn't eat them, then today it smells so awful I've had to throw them! I'm happy with the mince, but I really like to give him bones daily and mince a few times a week. Does anyone else order from them and noticed any change in the quality?
Also, is there anywhere else I can get bones from? I have tried all my local butchers and they can not supply enough. My mum has two mals and she needs bones for them too.

Thanks for any help.

Try Durham animal feed - slightly more expensive than Landywoods but good quality

I don't feed raw (at the moment!) but certainly am looking for bones to order for my dogs as it is almost impossible to get any from my butchers as demand is so high!  Durham Foods don't deliver in the south and Landyfoods I would have to order too many.  Can anyone help at all?

I don't know anywhere that has a minimum order of less than £40.  Do you know of anyone who would 'share' an order with you?

Not found anyone close enough to me to share yet!!  Happy for a minimum order price but it was the sheer quantity of bones I would get - I just couldn't store that many!

I have that trouble too, bones take up so much room in the freezer that I can only ever add a few to my usual £40 order.  If you don't want the rest of the meat you could do with someone that will add bones to their order for you.

Have a look at BritBarf - a yahoo group.  You may be able to access more raw feeders and find someone close to you OR get some information about local butchers.

The only recommendation I can make is to shop around a bit - see what you can find online and try phoning.  Some butchers seem much more willing or able to help than others.  It's worth asking at your local farmers market too.

i had some lambs tripe from them 3 weeks ago and it is awful,  green, sloppy, very very smelly and does'nt even look like tripe.  my hubby has refused to feed it, as it smells so bad.  also my dogs had loose bowels for the first time since i started to feed a raw diet.

i will think twice before i order some more of the same,   shame because it is normaly quite good.

Ho1mer, did you contact them? I had a problem with my carcasses last week, Janet said they would replace them for me, but I don't want more, I'm going to ask for my money back or rib bones. The rib bones have been fine, but now they will only let you have 2 bags per-order! And they are my dogs favourite thing! Had no problem with minces either, just them carcasses, my dogs won't eat them.

I can just about store my dogs order and I have a large chest freezer. Durham foods looks amazing but they don't deliever to my area!! I wish they did, their products are great. There doesn't seem to be anywhere else as good as them. I'm going to try these guys www.albionmeatproducts.co.uk
They seem to have a good variety, but still need to make a large order I'm afraid.

I've used Landywoods on occasion and I must admit on the last order I did think the quality had dropped. The tripe in particular was really smelly (even for tripe LOL) One of my dogs wouldn't touch it which was also unusual considering the week old road kill they hoover up with gusto.
I have a gripe about their bones as well, they (the ones I have had) are stripped of every morsel of meat whereas the butcher's ones are really meaty. I think I must be the only one round here who goes to the butchers because he always has loads but like you say, its freezer space, particularly with bones.

Do Albion sell marrow bones?  The ones I had from Landywoods, well some were okay, but others had totally defrosted by the time I got them, and not all of them had any meat left on them either!

I don't get Landywoods marrow bones anymore either, I tried them once and they smelt not too good. I'm not a bog fan of marrow bones anyway, they are too hard and the dogs can't eat anything off them.
They say they sell 'beef bones' at Albion, not sure what they are exactly. They sell trotters etc that I thought were raw but they cook them!! What a waste! There price list doesn't look so good now that I know most of it is cooked, so i won't be bothering with them.
I've just spoken to Peter from Durham Animal Feeds and he said they are going to start delivering in the South in the near future. I need to ring back after the 29th when the guy who usually works there is back and speak to him.
I will defo be making an order if they do, their price list looks great! So much on their!
