My 17 year old daughter was admitted to hospital on Wednesday morning with suspected appendicits. After keyhole with a few to removal they decided it was not appendix may be gynae. We have been waiting since then to see a doctor and have a scan as although they have nice pictures of a healthy appendix nothing else was taken to back up the surgeons notes GRR.
She is still in pain and now its Saturday morning and nothing happens in hospitals until monday. We  just have to wait.
I have been with her except to return home to my bed the whole time, she may be 17 put wants me there and I want to be around to speak to the doctors. Also having lost my Dad last year in the same hospital actually at one point we were in the same ward until I flipped and said I needed her to be moved as we couldn't handle being in the same place and we still discussing Dad's situation with the hospital  as well. I dont trust anyone
At 17 she really doesn't understand everything they are telling her .Put on goodness how much eating the rubbish available (burger king and the like) and am so tired. House looks like a tip (where did the washing fairy go) The poor animals have been negleted all week well it feels like it I am sure theyhaven't really oh had fed them and they have been walked every day just on their own tooooo long. They have been really good though even crossed their legs until I got home one day for hours ...guilt!!...

Trying to sort out a few hours home for her this weekend without losing the bed but cant yet find the on call doc.

This was not in my diary for the week !! fortunately work have been really kind  so far.
Why does waiting around make you tired?

waitin around makes you tird because your brain goes into sleep mode i expect - nothing to stimulate it, well except worry!

Try not to worry about the dogs - they've been fed and walked, being left for a long time isn't the end of the world and its not forever, its not like you do it all the time.

Concentrate on your 17yr old and keep making a nusiance of yourself on the ward by asking for when the doctor is coming, they'll get fed up and beg the doc to come. The other alternative is to threaten self discharge - they will come running then as you have to sign forms to say your going home against medical advice! Not ideal but might get a response.

hope your daughter gets better soon.

So let me get this right - your daughter has had unneccesary surgery and is sat in a hospital bed until Monday when she can see a Gynae doctor ?

If so i would be FURIOUS .  There is a gynae doc on call 24 hrs a day , why can't she be seen now ?
If she has to wait until Monday you might aswell discharge her then walk straight back into casualty to see the on-call gynae doc .

Well not exactly unnecssary they thought they were going in to take out appendix then found that wasn't the case , so turnrd the op into an exploratory certainly would have helped if surgeon had taken shot's of cystic ovary and not just loads of pics of healthy appendix !! Fortunately they did go in key hole not the full monty. I have made my feelings known over that
Seen gynae doctor twice yesterday (2 different) ones because they didn't manage to get one to us on the previous day. Omg do the wheels turn slowly, to find out what she had been taken in for THAT what I thought notes were for and one at 8.00last night to tell us finally they couldn't get a scan for that day and nothing doing till Monday .
The reason I wont have her discharge herself is because I cant garantee a bed in this ward ( has to be here as I have already kicked up being in the other ward and this one is at least refurbished and has really nice english speaking staff which helps with me so touchy and neither can they her getting a scan earlier than Monday even through a+e. It would be difficult to take her elsewhere with stictches and 2 holes in her tummy still with dressings on. Dont want infections that will be down to us and she is still taking morphine for pain.
All in all I am picking my fights, just all of us are very fed up and she hurts twice now. Not to mention missing work and her just starting A levels I would have taken her to the other hospital in the next borough but the she was already half way here when I got the call at work so out of my hands. Trouble with large hospitals and big catchments in London I hate the place would go private if I could. I know things can go badly any where but at least private you are the client and they are accountable to you. Not just a service user with your back to the wa.
ll. Please excuse my rant just fed up and worried.

I feel for you , i was in hospital at a similar age and unlike yours i wouldn't eat any of the crap they have and i lost 3 stone. I made my mum stay with me as i had to ring the emergency bell to go for a wee, i have a big bladder and it was 8 hours i was left unattended, not even a head popped in the door to check if i was ok. I had a back op, had to learn to walk, couldn't feed myself or even sit up. I had to be fed and when my mum wasn't there it wouldn't happen. Id only eat soup and it would be very cold by the time someone did when they did come. I was in intensive care for a few days and the care in there wasn't much better, i couldn't keep food down and i could feel myself retching, but i cant move and theres no one in the room!!! I look up at my heart monitor and its 146bpm i'm panicking and choking on my sick, i manage to make noise and they come running. I wouldn't let mum go to work for the entire time i was in, and left early so i could be cared for properly at home.

Please don't leave her, i reverted back to infancy and i don't trust doctors judgments. I have lost a friend through septicemia from burst appendix.
