Hi

Ok do not scream at me all you hound people :)

At ringcraft there is a beagle who is very well behaved, when she does her stand she stands in a perfect square shape or whatever it is they are suppose to stand in and her tail is ALWAYS up straight, even when the dog is relaxed. So I was wandering if this is how they all are and if beagles are normally docked as I always thought they were for some reason

Thanks

Heidi

Hi Dogs
Beagles are never docked.I beleive they hold their tails up as this was to make it easier for the huntsman to see them out in the field in long grass etc .It does work -my breed ,Elkhounds have their tail curled over their back but when they are far away or in woodland the white under the tail is clearly visible-its often the only part you can see!!

Yes, you always get the best view of an Elkhounds bum. It is the view you see most often when out :D :P

At home it is another matter it is the eyes boring into you, especially when any food is about :P

Beagles have STERNS not tails (they are hounds:) ) and no they most certainly are not docked. Hounds use their sterns to indicate when they are on the line....casting...feathering and so on.

Sam

Is it normal to have the stern up all the time even when the dog is not working or being showed?

Hi,
my daughter shows and co. owns a beagle and alot of beagles hold their tales up straight and that is how they are supposed to be. What breeding is the beagle that goes to you ringcraft???

Hi

Not sure what the breeding is as I do not speak to the owners (It is a very clicky place).

I only speak to the other husky people and have made friends with a few people that have great dANES

:)
