Its me again with another silly question. Would a 15/20 min walk be ok for a mum of week old puppies, she sees her mum going off for her walks and wants to tag along !! mum goes out for an hour or so which is to long away but i could take them both round the block a few times which is 15/20 mins.
If possible an answer asap would help as we are off on grandmas walk soon.
Thanks Rowena

Some do but I wouldn't risk walking where other dogs have been without thorough disinfecting with Parvocide on return. :(

I just don't risk it.  They have a big enough garden when they can play in for a while.

I have to say I wouldn't risk it either.  I disinfect myself when I come back from a walk with my other dogs & they are kept well separated from a bitch with pups.

I also have the same process when a bitch is in whelp, I excercise her well away from other dogs & when I'm out with my other dogs I make sure I change my clothes if I've come into contact with other dogs (at training etc.)

I don't take my girls out at all until I start weaning the pups, (3 weeks) they have enough on their plates without taking them out, I want them to concentrate their energies on their babies.

At that stage I can wash them down wait for them to dry before they go back to their babies with neither Mum or pups getting distressed.

I would never dream of taking a bitch outside when she had week old pups.  Apart from the fact that I want her to be close to them, I just couldn't risk anything brought back to the pups.  As someone else has already said, the garden is huge, and they can run around outside in the garden.  I am surprised that you're even contemplating it this early on.

I was only asking what others do as she gets upset when she sees her mum going out!!! we never took mum out until the pups were weaned and doubt we will with her, we have a huge garden which she goes in and if she wakes during the night she goes on the front lawn.
Thanks for your advice it is appreciated.

I took Ellie for a 5 minute walk when the pups were about 2 weeks old, only once every few days when she got too miffed about the others going out without her. But I always washed and dried her feet and tummy when we got back before I let her go back to them.
