Can anyone reccomend a safe painkiller for a bitch who is possibly in whelp?

Why does she need a painkiller?

I did try to put it on here earlier but my post was wiped off as I'd also posted it on health!  Didnt realise you wernt supposed to.  Hope its ok to copy a bit on here.....?  But as no one has answered my other thread anyway.  Sorry its so long winded :-)

I mated my bitch on 25th & 26th August.  Everything has been going well, she's been eating great which she doesnt normaly
after a season and looking great and still full of energy until yesterday!!!  Hardly ate anything in morning so went out on her
walk with our other girl and met other dog owners, she wasnt interested in playing at all and stayed by our side.  Cut the walk short and brought her home.  She still didnt want to eat or drink, went and lay on the mud and was very lathergic.  I thought she was a bit hot so phoned the vet who said to bring her over.  Yesterday other than the fact she looked totally miserable and her temp was 102.5 the vet could
find nothing but gave her a one off shot of sinulox just in case something was brewing.  By last night still the same, when she's standing her head is hung quite low, and she is really reluctant to get up at all.  I put my arms round her and gave her a cuddle and she gave a little yelp?Back to vets this morning and seen the older vet.  No temp, back end fine, tummy seems fine but when he tried to lift her head up she would only let it go so far then tensed up.  He thinks theres a chance it is a neck injury but cant be 100% sure.  Anyway he checked and said he is reluctant to give her anything for pain as there is nothing showing as tested and safe to give bitches in whelp!!!  If she doesnt start eating over the next day or two then  the pros and cons may of not eating v taking painkillers may change.
I am trying to find a McTimoney practioner in Scotland and so far have found a couple and left messages but if anyone knows of anywhere I could try and take her or anything I could safely give her to make her more comfortable?

Can I suggest that you lift her bowl off the ground. I had one with a neck injury and when I raised the bowl she could eat more comfortably.
We have a great chiropractor down in the North West but this will probably be too far for you to travel. Could you give Arnica or something similar.

There is Sasha Cessford in Edinburgh.  I have used her for a couple of my dogs and she is very good but is always booked up in advance.

Will give Sacha a try tomorro.  I'm going to take her back to the vets in the morning and ask for a scan to rule out a Pyo just in case.
Have some arnica in the cupboard. thanks

If I'm thinking right, your girl was mated almost exactly three weeks ago?
A bitch in whelp will often refuse to eat, even vomit, and seem "unwell" around three weeks post mating. It's
a sure sign of her being in whelp, it's when the faetuses attach themselves to the walls of the womb.
The neck pain is something different, but the lack of apetite and the lethargic behaviour, could very well be nature in progress ;-) .
Good Luck,
Karen

We discovered a lump had came up on her neck yesterday morning, right at the front high up on her throat.  Back to vet yesterday so she is now on antibiotics.  Vet said as she had been seen on the two previous days and this wasnt present that he feels it is infection probably caused by insect, stick or something but does answer the question or why she wasnt wanting to eat and hanging her head!!!
She was a bit brighter last night and even ate some puried food, some cold meat and had a few drinks so fingers crossed she is turning the corner.
I suppose if the mating has taken then she has the hormone bit thrown in too which will no doubt be making her feel even worse and probably wondering what on earth is happening to her.
