the had ties every second day 4 a week.
i was told not to get them scanned as this can harm the puppies if they are any, i would like 2 know if anyone else has used the scan to see if there bitch was in pup, or is it better to got to the vet between week 2/3 before they go up into the rib cage any reply welcome

Have always scanned never as far as i know has it harmed the puppies ultrasound is quite safe , dont envy you having two whelping that close together though!

i've always used a sheep scanner never had a problem.
......sorry to jump on the back of this but when do most people get the scan done? My bitch was mated first on 8th Sept then again on 10th Sept so I just wondered when she should be scanned.
Thanks in advance for your help with this!

30 -32 days here

28 to 30 days here, by 35 days I can usually tell myself.
thanks for the replies.
my breeder told me not to use them that's why i came on here and asked.
my daughter and son are at home they are going to help me also, but am not saying its going to be easy .
am going to put an appointment on with my vet when they are 30 days at the moment its to early.
this will be one of my dogs first litter if she takes and second for the other so keeping my finger x she is as am planing to keep a sable bitch.
thanks again
Just back from the vets having had scan (always have scanned and never a problem) and bitch is on day 31/33 - positive scan she is indeed in whelp so now very excited, however vet not keen on counting but did say saw atleast 3. Vet likes to scan after day 28 but optimum time is day 30 onwards, good luck with the scan
Had my girl done by a sheep scanner at 30 days. She showed me 6 black solid blobs.Only had the 1 mating and could tell myself 2 days before I had her scanned so just have to wait now to see if she is right.
i will need to waitas tia will not be 30 days until a week today then i will take her 2 the vet .
that way i will be sure ,there are 10 days between them so i could take her the folowing week then i will know to exspect 2 litters .
i am keeping my fingers x as hopefully get a new member 2 the family will let u all know.
a cant understand why me breeder told me not to get them scanned she said they reabsorb the pups if you scan them .
well am going 2 get them scanned as it will put my mind at rest
thanxs again everyone
shaz

28 days i get mine scanned, we have a guy who comes round to the house to scan them, he is fantastic
i am going 2 the vet on tuesday to find out if she is in whelp
thanxs very much for all the reply

hi dogsbody
what is the difference between the scans?
i though they were the same,or did you know a farmer with the scan ?
as i know alot of farmers or am i being stupid
shaz
Its the first time I,ve had one of mine scanned but used a sheep scanner because a lot on CD forum recommend using them as they seem to be more reliable than vets as to how many puppies there is. Will just have to wait and see if she was right.
took tia to the vet today she is 25 days today, the said he could feel pups but wasnt sure,he also said she was well at herself but sure she was in whelp
he asked me to take her back when shes 45 days for a scan to make sure she was in whelp so will have to wait for the scan so he can make sure she is ,what a carry on .
a told him my other dog was 15days .he wants me to take her to the vet when shes 21 days so he can tell me wether shes in whelp also.
i phoned and told my breeder and she told me not to go back for the scan as this will cause the pups to be reobsorbed what chance do i have other than wait see nearer there due date ???
>she told me not to go back for the scan as this will cause the pups to be reobsorbed
Nonsense. If that we so then human babies would be reabsorbed after the routine scans that everyone has.
The advent of ultrasound scanning proved what breeders had always suspected - that reabsorption was a fact. It's always happened; scanning merely proved it. It
doesn't cause it, merely giving evidence that it has occurred.
