I was up the school collecting my children with Millie in tow and got talking to a lady with a 14 week old boxer boy pup. He was lovely and she asked my thoughts on running with her dog. Now I run with both my dogs ( not together, not that brave!!! lol) so was shocked when she told me her vet said it would be ok to start running with her dog now! She was out for 30 mins with him today!!!!! My advise was to not go running with her dog until he was more grown preferably after he turned a year. Let him romp around, teach him to walk nicely on a lead and let his bones grow, then slowly build up with him running. I have only just started with Millie at 15 months! Now am I being over cautious, I personally was mortified that a vet would say it was ok at such a young age.
I agree , wouldnt even think of it till 12 months in any large breed . Mind you just had a rescue in the vet told the owners (who have had it 6mths) its definitely a newfie , no way its 3/4 gsd maybe a little newfie so i dont think vets know much about individual breeds !!!!

No, you're not!!!!
Definately not, i find myself correcting vets alot recently in regards to large breeds. Met an American Bulldog a while ago similar age as my pup, i said he was quite over weight for his age and that she shouldnt be taking him for 5 walks a day a mile each. Vet said he needs exercise to drain his energy and his weight is good. I said the excess weight and too much exercise too young can severely damage joints, he needs a romp around on a field and a good training regime and thats it until hes 6 months then the walks can increase a little. Vets seem to know very little about breeds too as my (undershot) dogues jaws are not supposed to be like that! Apparantly.

I've found this to be a recurring problem.
Difficult to give advice when it contradicts the persons vet.
I bet they just humour me and think ''yeh what does she know''
Quite alot actually with 3 damn healthy dogues by my side!
