Hi I mated my bitch 13 days ago.  Since then she has been constantly cleaning herself and I have now noticed
she has a small red patch close to her vulva which I think is being caused by her licking.
What I wanted to know was is this much licking normal?  And is there anything I can put on it?  I gave it a clean
with diluted hibiscrub.
Thanks

You can safely use Sudacrem on sore spots.

Thanks just wasnt sure because of where it was :-)
Do you think this amount of licking is normal?  She normally very rarely licks herself.

I had a bitch that was very sore, after her pups were weaned.  I had my vet check her out, and he said that she had been over fastidious in her cleaning.  He told me I could safely use Sudacrem, but also recommended something from the chemist.  I gaily walked in and asked for it, and felt a bit of an idiot buying cream for nappy rash at my age!  But I used both creams with success, and she eventually stopped the 'over the top' cleaning.  Never had a problem with her since.

thanks, I have sudacream so will try that first and if it looks as though its getting any worse will get her to the vets.  Its not bad just
a small red mark but I know she's over cleaning.  She'll be going to the vets at the end of next week anyway for her scan :-)

I'm sure that she'll be fine.  I did feel a bit of an idiot pointing it out to the vet, but she had actually licked the one side of her vulva raw.  The skin had actually broken down.  It did take several weeks before the skin looked as if it was getting back to normal, but it was quite bad to start with.  So, as your girl has just a small patch, I'm sure she'll sail through it.
