Has anyone tried this ? How successful/unsuccessful was it?
thinking of trying it for helping my willpower to lose weight

It depends entirely on the skill and knowledge of the therapist, as with most things. :)

I've tried it at various times with different hypnotherapists and it hasn't ever worked for me.  :(

Did it not help at all Earl?

Unfortunately, it's another one of those qualifications that you can get from a weekend course, or even a correspondence course, like dog training. :(

It's quite scary really. My OH is booked onto an NLP course starting next week (Neuro Linguistic Programming?) I'm not sure what it fully entails, but I know that it's a 2 week course and it covers Hypnotherapy amongst other things. He was amazed that at the end of it he would be able to set up a practice. Apparently you can order a course on Amazon that comes with a preprinted certificate.

He became interested in it all after being hypnotised to stop smoking. This was his 3rd time, but the therapist had a very different approach to the previous 2, so he's confident it will have a longer lasting effect this time (18 months and counting!).

My step-mother used it to give up smoking and it worked, she's never smoked since.  She tried it for weight control but that hasn't worked.

I'm currently looking into hypnotherapy to help my mum stop smoking, she's tried everything else so I really hope it can help her.

NLP can be far more effective than most hypnotherapists.  It works like magic! :)

No, not at all, the only pounds I lost were out of my bank account.

I personally haven't tried it but my OH and also both my daughters have, it helped my OH with his fear of public speaking, one of my daughters was terrified of flying (ok now) my other daughter had a fear and she is also much better.  I do think it can work but does depend on the hypnotherapist.  My step daughter tried it to help her stop smoking but it didn't work for her.

I had it done for not eating chocolate but didn't have any success but am quite easily hypnotised.  I had past life regression done a few times and it is amazing.

Er, my husband is a qualified hypnotherapist and NLP master practitioner, and he certainly did not get his qualifications in two weeks.  Hypnosis is part of NLP, but it is not the same as being trained in hypnotherapy.

Within the next few years, it will be illegal to practice in the UK with these sort of "quick" qualifications, rather than having done a course which has been ratified by a higher authority, such as the Hypnotherapy Society, through a properly regulated and approved school.  It certainly is an interesting and rewarding profession, and my husband very much enjoys helping other people.

The technique my husband uses varies according to the client, as NLP suits some situations rather better than hypnotherapy.  NLP works well with some clients, as does hypnotherapy with others.  The key is that the client actually wants to change.

Hypnosis is part of NLP

I think that you'll find that NLP is used as part of hypnotherapy as well as on its own, rather than the other way round.  I also qualified in both 15 years ago but don't practice now. :)  NLP is also used in personal development to help motivate staff and encourage salesmen without the use of hypnosis.

Hypnosis is just bringing about a state of altered awareness.  The skill is what technique to use to help the client make the changes that they want to in their life.  Being able to choose the right technique for each patient is what makes a good therapist.  And of course some therapists are better at that than others, which is why some succeed and some fail as well as input from the client.  :)

Yep, tried it, and handed over the money.

Stopped at a garage on the way home and bought 3 bars of chocolate.  :-(
