Really sad to hear that Terry Wogan will be retiring from his morning show on Radio2 next year - will really miss a show that never fails to put a smile on my face even through difficult times. With all the regular contributors, it is like saying goodbye to a lot of friends.
Even worse news is that Terry is to be 'replaced' by Chris Evans - apart from Jonathon Ross, I can hardly think of a worse replacement for the TOGS. :( :(
Thanks Terry for all the wonderful listening years.

I was just going to make the same post .....what are us TOGs going to do now?????
Tel has been with us at breakfast time for ever, it would seem.......remember my 2 eldest (now both in their 40s

) racing out the door for school when "Radio 2 goes Racing" coming on ......Terry has put a spring in my step and a grin on my face when inside I've been howling like a banshee - Thank you Terry - and we'll look forward to your next radio show!

I listen to both terry Wogan and Chris Evans (one on the way in to work, the other on the way home), I think Chris Evans will actually be quite a good replacement. They both have similar styles, interacting with the listeners, the news readers, travel announcers etc. So although it will be different hopefully it won't be to different and you never know perhaps the TOGs can convert Chris Evans.
Well I for one will NOT be listening to Chris Evans! If they had chosen someone like Johnnie Walker or Richard Allinson, I would have stayed listening but Chris Evans? No way! Still, I suppose it is great news for all the rivals in the same time slot - their listening figures will shoot up no doubt. :)

I suspect that Chris Evans will keep the listen figures, the alternatives are not likely to appeal to a lot of the TOGs. Have you listened to Chris Evans on Drive Time, he is quite different to what he used to be on television.
I will however miss certain things, where will we be without Janet and John, Chuffer Dandridge, Digger Dunnyout etc, I will miss my morning doses of smut and innuendo :)

Oh how disappointing :(
Since moving out of the UK, Radio 2 is one of the lovely British things I can still enjoy via iPlayer.
I shall miss Terry Wogan very much.

Yes I have and don't really have a problem with him on at that time. In the mornings though, I prefer someone much more laid back. Think I would probably rather not have the radio on otherwise and just listen to CDs instead if I want to. At least that way, I wouldn't have to listen to all the dire news first thing as well!

Just going to have to put a spanner in the works here, while TW is or was really good listening a few years ago I think he has become very mundane, all the silly janet and john stories really annoy me - almost like school boy humour.
I think Chris Evans is very funny, very entertaining and current - and I am sure the ratings will remain high although quite possibly with a different audience.
Johhy Walker is also brilliant but I don't think he would want to be doing the show every day now :)
>Even worse news is that Terry is to be 'replaced' by Chris Evans - apart from Jonathon Ross, I can hardly think of a worse replacement
Ditto. Chris Evans is fine in the afternoon/early evening when everyone's awake, but he's far too OTT and loud and shouty for first thing in the morning. Simon Mayo would have been a better choice.
The mornings won't be the same without the Janet and John stories, Chuffer Dandridge and all the TOG contributions. I wonder what station I'll listen to till 9.30.

I used to listen to Chris Evans on Virgin radio (I think it was Virgin) in the mornings and he was really funny. When I was commuting to work I would listen to Chris for the banter and as soon as the music came on flicked over to radio 2 for the music then back to Chris, I have always found Chris Evans entertaining, especially in the mornings he helps me wake up! I do think now he has been on radio 2 for a while his taste in music has improved (same taste as me) so will not have to flick the stations when music is played.
Terry Wogan has been brilliant and he is an institution but he is leaving while we can all remember him being that way - at the top! And I know 2 members of our household who will not be sad to never hear another Janet and John nonsensical and unfunny story in fact I may be allowed to listen to it without having to switch to radio 4 when the banter comes on :)

it isnt the tastes of the DJ that determines the music, unless its a specialist evening genre show.
it all comes down to management playlist meetings.
radio 2 is now a mixture of old and brand new pop, but then todays brand new pop is all retro and radio 2 anyway! so you can get the same songs played on both radios 1 & 2.
i quite like terry wogan and chris evans, i find their styles very familiar.
Chris is the same vein as terry, just slightly livelier, but still relatively calm for the mornings.
nothing like he used to be when on radio 1 or TV.

I'm sorry Terry is going to, but I think Chris Evans is excellent, especially Friday night, I think Chris has changed over the years, grown up even!!
Also Alan Carr is hiliarious :-)))
Agree I did not rate Chris Evans (Ginger minger) at all, but driving home I have been listening and I like his show. I hear Terry on the way in and Chris on the way home.
I prefer Chris.

I think Chris Evans will be great. He's turned a corner these last couple of years, he's grown up I guess, and I now find him a very professional broadcaster. I don't listen to Terry Wogan very often, I had to when I was still at home and often found his humour was based on sarcasm, Chris Evans is naturally funny.
Not sure about Simon Mayo - he was my favourite Radio 1 breakfast presenter (many moons ago !) but I don't think his style would work as well now - he was very young then (so was I :-( !)
Lots of rumours still about Jonathan Ross on a Sat morning.......now Terry could take over his slot quite easily !.

I've just read something interesting (well I think it is !).
When Terry Wogan started on the Radio 2 Breakfast show he was only 34 !. Chris Evans is 43 and probably far more suited to the show than Wogan was when he took over !.
Just out of curiosity, are those in favour of Chris Evans taking over mostly between 20 and 40 years old, as I suspect that the Radio2 bosses are probably aiming at that age group with this change?

Oh well, IMO opinion this is replacing bad with worse .... I'm obviously not a fan of either!
>the silly janet and john stories really annoy me - almost like school boy humour.
You say that as if it's a bad thing! ;-) :-D
Good job a lot of people enjoy them or Children In Need fundraising would be a lot worse off :)

I might listen to radio 2 now.
Usually I switch off after Sarah Kennedy's show. I can't stand Terry Wogan. I think it is a shame they haven't moved Sarah to the later slot.

Sarah Kennedy's far too inarticulate to cope with more than an hour!

She gets her words hopelessly tangled up and becomes incomprehensible.

No - I'm nearer 50. Maybe that's what they were hoping to do though when they hired the 34 year old Terry Wogan.....................and it worked, but they've just grown up and got older with him and now don't like the idea of a younger chap.
i think radio 2 has been aimed at that age group for the last couple years

Simon Mayo is too boring as is Richard Allinson. Sarah Kennedy is never there half the time as she's 'ill' (Intoxicated allegedly!). I really like Liza Tarbuck on Radio 2, I think her and Mark Radcliffe are so funny when they've covered Steve Wright's show (A lot better than Steve Wright!).

Didn't hear Liza Tarbuck and Mark Radcliffe together but sounds as though that would be an entertaining combination. I do give Chris Evans a vote, and think consider Terry Wogan has well and truly passed his 'sell buy date'. I would chuck him him out like a pair of worn out slippers....ruthlessly.
Karen :)
UMMM Im 54 and like Chris Evans Terry is too old and smarmy for my liking IMPO

I'm 47 and like both Terry Wogan and Chris Evans. Out of the current crop of Radio 2 DJs Chris Evans is the best for the morning show IMO. Sarah Kennedy drives me up the wall and as for Steve Wright he should have been put out to grass years ago he has got to be the worst presenter on Radio.
I don't normally get to hear Steve Wright and try and avoid it whenever I can but I did hear Liza Tarbuck and Mark Radcliffe doing his show a month or so ago and they were good, trouble is I often listen to Radcliffe and Maconi in the evenings while walking the dog and like their show so if they moved I'd have nothing to listen to when walking the dog :)
>Steve Wright he should have been put out to grass years ago he has got to be the worst presenter on Radio.
I think that dubious honour must go to Jeremy Vine, who's the most irritating, useless, hopeless presenter of all time, beating even Steve Wright (vain and egocentric) and Sarah Kennedy (sweet but inarticulate) by miles!
Lisa Tarbuck's chat is okay but her segueing is poor - I don't think she'd cope with a daily show; Mark Lamaar and Jo Brand were always excellent when they stood in for Jonathan Ross.

I do wonder about Steve Wright. He seems to have so much time off. Not sure if it's the way his contract works or if perhaps he isn't well. Just wondered as he wasn't on air yesterday either.
> Mark Lamaar and Jo Brand were always excellent when they stood in for Jonathan Ross.
Not Mark Lamarr, his taste in music is pants, he was allowed to chose a lot of his own tracks and it's either elusive old R&R tracks or ska - yeuch.

Best news I've heard for ages. My two kids aged 22 & 18 were thrilled as well as they were brought up on TFI Friday and used to listen to Chris on Virgin and Radio one. He was like part of the family! At last I can turn over from the annoying Chris Moyles.

Sorry but I have not yet ventured into Radio 2 as I am still a Radio 1 and Radio 4 fan :-D

Ah ...now then Chris Moyles agh!! Along with the top gear eejit Clarkson those two are the most annoying media presenters in my view.
ooohh no Clarkson.....i adore him!!i would happily leave kids and fella, not dogs though for one night with him.......but then again i do find Meatloaf{bloke not food} attractive and also Sam Allerdyce..so maybe i should just keep quiet in a corner and keep popping the pills!

Im glad Wogan is going. I cannot stand him! Me and my colleague listen to a local show in the morning and switch over for Jeremy Vine in the afternoon for a debate afternoon! We can just leave R2 on all day now!

I have to agree, I used to like Wogan a good few years ago but now he just annoys me - inane drivel! I can't stand Sarah Kennedy either, but my radio alarm is tuned to Radio 2 so I need to listen to her between Snoozes, this week its Aled Jones who is on and he is great, very articulate unlike Sarah. I like Jeremy Vine too. I was surprised by how good Chris Evans was in the evening as he is not a broadcaster that I particularly liked before but rather him than Wogan or Kennedy! :-D :-D

Chris Evans is a different person to the one of Virgin/R1 breakfast show days.
R2 will reduce their average listening age here by 10 yrs over the next 6 mths. They know what they are doing.
Aled Jones should be given the Sarah Kennedy show too, as he's very good. She's become embarassing as she's so inarticulate. She likes a drink or nine on a regular basis and it's becoming more and more apparent with her performance and absense levels.

I too am a devoted R1 fan i love Chris Moyles, i know he's not to everyones taste, i love Scott mills in the afternoon as well i think it's there silly school boy type of humour that apeals to me, people must think im mad when im in the car alone laughing .
As for Terry i'm not a huge fan, i wonder what he's going to do with his time, first the eurovision gone and now his radio show, maybe he's slowing things down.

He is 71 so perhaps he is just going to take it easy, he's already said he will continue with Proms in the Park and apparently a new once a week show.
Just been announced that Simon Mayo is taking over from Chris Evans, there is also a rumour that Chris Evans will also start at 7.00 cutting half hour of Sarah Kennedy's show.
I start work at 8am and we listen to Radio 2. Terry Wogan really annoys me, Janet & John and all the infantile smut, totty from Splotty etc, etc.
At 45 years old I'm thrilled the Chris Evans is replacing him, I've been really surprised at how much I've enjoyed his evening show. He was a shouty, over excitable young man but like the rest of us, he's grown older. Middle aged Chris Evans is quite a mellow chap, I think he's going to be v. good.
Just one question, how much longer until Ken Bruce reaches retirement age?

Ken Bruce is great, the banter between him & Lynn Bowles is excellent. Long may Ken stay until midday!

Oh my goodness.... the tears and the laughs.....
I'm just listening to Wogan's last show on bbc iPlayer from Friday 18th Dec...
What a wonderful wonderful chap.............
Did anyone else listen?

How many others have heard of the drink and Sarah Kennedy issue? Maybe R2 chould be thinking of losing her as well!!???
Not a huge fan but I was taking Whistler to the groomers and we heard his last broadcast, felt a huge lump and the groomers were in tears. I think he was a genuine chap but i prefer Steve Wright & Chris Evans. But it was a era passing and Im glad I heard his sign off.

Oh hoorah!!! :) I'm so glad someone else heard it and thought it was quite emotional too. Thought it was just me feeling a bit homesick! lol
