It's vacination time in my household and I am wondering if my 2 cats really need to have it done.

Neither of them has set paw outside for over a year and a half and as they are both getting a little elderly I wonder if they really need the stress.  Although they do come downstairs to visit in the evening they spend most of their time in the bedroom, the dogs are not allowed upstairs so they don't interact very much at all.

Of course I have asked the vet and they say they would still recommend we get it done but then I wouldn't expect them to say anything else ;)

Has anyone got any advice?  Just want what is best for them.

I stop vaccinating mine when they reach 10. Most breeders I know do the same. My oldest is 16 so have not been done for 6 years now.

I stopped vacinationg my previous cat when he was getting older on the advice of the vet. Admittedly she treated both conventionally and homeopathically. This agreed with my feelings that his immune system didn't need the extra stress on it of vaccines , he lived until 17. I now only give vacines initially to all my animals (contravertial I know ) and they do go out.
As yours dont I definitely wouldn't renew.

It's actually MORE important to vaccinate cats that DON'T go out as they don't get the same immunity and you can bring virus in on your shoes -but after ten years of being done I believe they have got enough immunity.

Thanks for your answers, they are both over 10 so I think I might leave it. No point stressing them if I don't have to.

My son has just got a kitten, 18 weeks old, who is very thin. I don't think this little one has been looked after properly or been wormed. What is the best way for him to go forward to help this little girl? I know very little about cats. He is having her vet checked tomorrrow.

What kind of food, wormers would you recommend? Can kittens have scrambled eggs etc?

Thanks

The vets the best port of call especially for a good wormer.  Then it will be good quality kitten food.  Is her toilet ok?    She will need a good balanced diet, maybe something like Applaws (Or Encore available in Sainsbury's) which would be gentle on her tum and a kitten complete.  I have my own preference for kitten complete.   Small regular meals would be better than one or 2 large meals, not to overload her stomach as that'll cause diarrhoea.

Thanks. I told him to get wormer from the vet tomorrow. Her toilet is fine, she is bright and virtually inhales her food.

I picked up kitten complete and some wet food and have told him to offer small feeds.
