Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Amounts AG

Hi,

My girl is currently on AG chicken&Rice large dog...
The amount she gets is about half of the recommendation which looks very little!
I was giving her nearly the recommended amount for little while when I changed her over to this and it was obvious she will soon roll around if I kept her on that!
She has always been pretty good utilising her food but I actually feel mean giving her the amount that seems to suit her as it is very little for a dog of her size...

I run 5km with her everyday or swim her for an hour as a main exercise + 30 minutes walk in the morning and about hour in the afternoon...
Some days she goes for off lead running with other dogs in the afternoon instead of a walk...
Afternoon walks have been pretty slow because of the weather so I do not count that as proper exercise.
But I would still say she gets fair amount of exercise but as many larger dogs she is pretty lazy and not active when at home(you hardly notice she is here)!

Does anybody else find the amount of AG they can give to their dog is lots less than the recommendation in the bag?

Both my girls have less then required amount as they are both slightly overweight - different breeds, one spayed one not. What i put in the bowls seems really mean but i always add a meat to give an appetising look, I use Rocco which they love.

I haven't looked at the packet lately as I now feed mostly raw but when my youngest was a puppy I found I went through stages when he needed more than the recommended amounts.  My older dog was on less than suggested.

Packet guidelines aren't terribly specific as they have to cover multiple breeds and many variables regarding exercise regimes and metabolism rates.  A helpful start point though as long as owners remember each dog is different and know how to check their dogs weight by eye and by feel.

My older dog is pretty stable but I find I still have to adjust food for the youngster - even at 2 years old :)

I switched to AG almost a year ago and yes I'd say my lot need less than the pack says, they've all gained a 1lb or 2. I'm considering a lesser quality food, especially for my spayed 3yr old who has plumped up like a balloon  :(

Mine are on between half and two thirds the amounts mentioned on the feeding guide.  They are just a guide and most people I know find the same that most food tables are way too generous.

my spayed bitches also put on weight,so i switched from premium to lite, which did help.in fact my almost 14year old bitch is still on it.

My collies were on AG until earlier this year ... we found the recommended amounts too high (even for very active dogs).  You know your dog, and AG will tell you it's recommended guidelines.  If concerned, I'd e-mail Ness, their nutritionist, I always found her very helpful and honest.

I have the opposite problem with my youngest dog.  I have him on AG premium (which is really for working dogs), and he has half as much again as the recommended amount.  But he is a nightmare to keep weight on.

Thank you everybody.
It seems most give less than the recommendation so maybe she is normal :)!
With different food she was on less than the bag said but I got little worried when the amount she is on is half of the amount.
We have topped up her exercise in order to try to minimise her phantom pregnancy so maybe we can give her little more food soon...Not much to keep the phantom in check tho!
I have added some vegetables to make the amount to fill her belly little more...
