--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For several months now i have been unwell but have no idea whats wrong with me! i am permenantly tired and have lots of stomach pain which led to me spending countless hours on the loo...i am now going to hospital tomorrow for something called a Barium Enema...
it cant make me feel worse than i do already!
i have to have a boiled egg for breakfast this morning along with a slice of white bread and honey! then take a sachet of industrial strength laxative! which has to be repeated at 3pm ...oh such fun to look forward to! and after such a luxurious breakfast i have to starve until after the procedure tomorrow! so keep your fingers crossed for me its going to be a long and eventful day!

I hope it is something simple (like trapped wind ;-) ) but will be thinking of you.

My daughter suffers from IBS, and I am thinking I may be starting the same symptoms, so I do know about the pain in the belly area :-(

i am hoping it is IBS as the alternatives are far worse!! the Laxative is already taking effect...my stomach is gurgling loudly!

Having had a similar procedure - a bit of advice: Stay close to the loo today!!

Good luck for tomorrow. If it is IBS, a lot of your symptoms can be cut out through a more selective diet.

Thanks for the advice..i am now on computer upstairs next to the loo! awaiting the onslaught!

I had a barium enema and whilst its uncomfortable its not painful. Just be aware you are going to (excuse the word) fart for Britain and be in a loo when you do!
It could be diverticulitus or IBS or Colitus all treatable and if you follow the diet it doesnt come back. I have IBS, my OH had diverticulitus once and it has never returned in 6 years.

My OH took me for the test, and when I came out he uttered not one word (the only time ever) I took a plastic bag to sit on, no accidents happened I got home sat on the loo for a bit and the next day passed what only can be described as concrete!! 24 hours later all done and dusted and no after effects. Just dont be too far from a loo!

Best of luck it really isnt that bad and Im afraid I giggled all the way through it, because I felt it was so funny and Im glad Ive never meet the doctor in the street!!! Im sure it will be fine but you have done the absolute best thing going. But I think a wheat allergy sound more likely!!! if they do not find anything get a test for wheat intolerance!

Oh poor you.
I hope it all goes well, it is so horrible not knowing what is the matter, at least when you know you can get on and deal with it.

oh in the mist thats horrid- i've had to drink the barium (i've got Crohns) and have x rays done and its horrid.

not a pleasant thought but send someone to buy you moist loo roll (trust me).

you cannot go as you should not stray further than 10 feet from the loo.

best of luck with it, i hope its nothing serious. have they given you any idea of what they think it is?

hi well today has been eventful and shows no signs of wearing off yet!!!
i have soft and moist loo roll!
they thnk it could be IBS in which case nothing will show up on the xrays..so fingers crossed....
have to go..............

Good Luck,

I was taken into hospital a few years back with awful cramps(doubled over in pain and sent to A&E by my GP), they weren't sure what was wrong with me and thought IBS. I went to a nutritionist and basically if i over indulge on any one food then it sets me off on trips to the loo, but very rarely do i get stomach cramps now as i am careful to some extent.

If it's Picolax that you have taken you have my sympathy. When I took it I gave up getting off the loo!! Our Financial Director teased me all day when I told him I wouldn't be in work in the morning but would probably be in by the afternoon, I didn't know what he found so funny until I took it, for years after he used to tease me about being Picolaxed. Hope you get some sleep tonight and good luck for tomorrow.

hi well im still alive only just though!
yes it was Picolax i took! one sachet at 8am and one at 3pm...
lets say i have a stack of magazines in the bathroom and turned the telly around in the bedroom so i could watch from my throne!
i then dragged myself to bed and slept on and off!
i am still shattered though and i didnt realise that i would be feeling this sick
one other thing i have noted is all my stomach bloating has gone down...
my appointment is at 10 so hopefully it will be over by 11...
thankyou for all your messages
xx

well the interim results are in!! and yes i am ill and its not been in my head all this time
it became obvious right away that there was a problem and it turns out i have diverticulosis
which has developed into diverticulitus ...i will be having surgery in the near future...
i am a bit fed up and a bit emotional but hey im still alive!

Right, its a good thing really IBS drags on and on Ive had it for over 20 years.
My OH found he just had to take fybogel in a glass of orange juice every morning and that was that.
You have got it infected so I guess its a small op to have the bulge repaired?

Its not much help today saying its the best result you could get, but it is, believe you me I have lifetimes shares in imodium!! yours should, with a small diet change, keep you free of symptoms very shortly. Well done you and dont stray far from the loo today!!

Hope you are ok for the weekend

I know Ive had trouble swallowing, my Mum had a illness called Barrats I really was scared. I had a tube put down my throat and its a shatski (sp) ring. I must have had a virus which scrared my throat I take a tablet now no problems. But what with that and IBS. I dont like taking tablets of any sort but there you go.
Colin had a bad pain in his side for about three weeks, I sent him off to the doctor and it was diviticultus. As I wrote he added fybogel to his early morning orange juice and there you go never came back.

It can be caused by stress, by rushing when you go to the loo, or putting it off. The bowel stretches and off "waste" materials fets into this little bulge/pocket and basically festers. It can be nasty yours is worse than Col's but it us easily controlled with taking more time in the loo, eating more roughage (fybogel, movelat supplements) and all better. But none of us wants to ill, and be proven mortal in a way, something that cant be controlled by a good nights sleep or an asprin. But it is far better to have what you have then bowel cancer say.

You will feel better after your op, keep pushing for it and get it over and done with, thinking of you.
