I just wondered what age is the oldest dog you've known?

The oldest dog I've personally known was my uncle's small cross-breed, Emma, who lived to be 17 yrs. The second oldest was the medium sized, cross-breed bitch we had when I was growing up, Sindy, who lived to be 16yrs. The most impressive aged dog I've met, was a 15 yr old Great Dane!
ETA, the Dane was very much alive at that age, we met him at the vets, due to his age he was visiting the vets regularily for check-ups, allthough he had artritis he was such a happy chappy :)

We had a beagle who lived to 19 - he was 10 when I was born and was pts when I was 9, people warned my mum he wouldn't accept a new baby at his age but he was my constant companion and followed me everywhere!

Then we got a collie x who lived to 17, so you can see why I am confused when people refer to my current 12 year old collie x as 'old'  - to me he's just a puppy, lol!

the oldest ive know is 19ish. When my mates mum was helping with a rescue they were asked to take in a cairn terrier who turned out not to be a cairn terrier here is a pic of him.

They had a vet guess his age and when he died we worked him out to be around 19-20ish. He had very arthritus and had lost his marbles the poor old guy all ways forgetting what he was doing and bumping in to things, every year she would say "i dont think jimmy will be around much longer" but he just kept going!

My dogs old vet where we used to live said on one of our visits that he had just pts a golden retriever who was 20 !!

He said that he have him his 1st injections and sadly that morning his last.. having in his lifetime filled out 2 whole vacination cards.

And i always thought it was the crossbreeds that lived a very long time :)

A while ago there was a couple in the UK who were trying to prove their dog as the oldest dog in the world...they bought it 26 years ago in a RSPCA rescue centre and thought he was 3 then...but the rescue centre didn't hold any records back then so they couldn't prove it.

Our Collie cross was roughly 24 when pts, I say roughly as we got her from Battersea and they thought she was about 2 at the time.

I have known one of 23, the neighbours called him a Jack Russell, he looked to have bedlington in him being blue with lighter head furnishings.

They know he was over 23 at death as they had him before their son was born.

I had a yorkie who was 16 when she was pts. She was running about like a puppy until about 6 months before. She seemed to become old overnight and then deteriorated quite quickly. She was a gorgeous dog one of those one in a million dogs.

that is impressive. my darling boy that i grew up with made it 14 which is pretty good for a bullmastiff, even then we had him pts as he was starting to fit and was tired in himself, you all know what i mean.

Our Pomeranian's live on average to the age of 16.  Spanish had one die at 12 and one at 15, the father to the one at 15 died a few weeks before his 15th birthday.  My parents had a Papillon years ago that we think must of been around 19 when she died.

Thank you to all of you who replied :-)
Just recently there has been a spate of dogs dying prematurely around here so it's lovely to hear about so many living to such ripe old ages.
I met a 16 year old Springer the other day who still had plenty of life and spirit in her - she was amazing!
Wishing you and your dogs long healthy lives xx
