Hi my bitch had her litter 10 weeks ago with no major problems and was a very good mom, the past few days ive noticed a redish discharge, she's perfectly fine in herself eating well tearing it up with the pup i have kept. I have the vets first thing in the morning but now im worrying myself over possible senarios, is it possible she could already be coming into season already? my boy dog is wagging his tail at her the way he does when he's getting ideas shes in season.
Any thoughts greatly recieved.

How frequent are her seasons normally? If they are every 6 months you'd expect a season by the time the pups are around 4 months old, if they are more frequent, then sooner. Had she stopped bleeding after the birth? Some bitches bleed for more than 8 weeks, but I would not expect it to stop and then start again. A male dog will get excited by the smell of any blood, I've known them to think a wound on a leg for instance meant the bitch was in season, so that in itself doesn't need to mean a lot. If she had stopped bleeding and her season isn't due, I'd get the vet to check her to play safe.

I have certainly had some post partum discharge as late as this in a bitch especially with a larger litter and prolonged whelping.
As long as there is no sign of infection (the vet should be able to rule this out) then it should be fine.
I wouldn't have expected her in season yet unless her normal cycles are at particularly short intervals as by my calculation she is only roughly 21 weeks since her season, so wouldn't expect one for a month or two yet, but you never know.

Shes normally bang on 6 months but the last season she was mated she was late so it was 7 months nearly 8 when she came in, She did bleed a few weeks after whepling but it stopped after about 3rd week, i just have a feeling somethings amis even though shes acting more like a puppy that when she was a puppy lol.
I did have to laugh about you saying about boys thinking cut leg means season typical male! also shes not swollen like you would expect with a season, dont think ill be sleeping much tonight.
Thanks alot

Shall do! would walk over hot coals for my pooky, would hate for her to get sick. feel annoyed with myself for saying to my mom the other day how she breezed through pregnancy and birth i should of just kept my mouth shut, but shes ogt no temp and lively enough so if it is anything sinister its in the begining stages.

Been vets this morning temp was fine but got to go back at midday for scan just to be sure
One of my bitches had pups last year, her seasons are bang on 7mths from 1st day to next season. When the pups were 11 weeks old,she donated blood to the pet-blood bank, and the vet remarked about her bleeding and said she was in season. In fact she wasn't in season, but bled for about a week with no swelling or other symptoms. Her next season came exactly 7mths from the 1st day of the season she was mated on.

Uterus was clear but a smear showed up elevated White blood cells around her vulva so she's on antibiotics for a week so fingers crossed it'll clear up

HHmmmm tonight shes had her first antibiotic tablet but ive noticed that now shes started to smell fishy which she didnt till tonight do you think this is just because she has an infection of the vulva or should i be on close watch again?

I think that I would want to have a word with the vet, could you telephone and express your concern over the smell. Better safe than sorry.

Let us know how you get on. :-)

Could it not be an infection or do you think that maybe something was still inside ie dead pup? Could be just everything coming out. Hope it's not a pyo. Fingers crossed.

Vet thinks it's just smell from vulva infection, I'll be keeping a close eye.
