when choosing a kennel name does it have to be different from the names in every single breed or just names in your own breed (not that im going to use someone elses.)

dont know quite what you mean, but if im reading it write. NO you cant have my kennel name it has to be unquie.
and even if the KC says its ok someone my not like it.

say your kennel name was 'fushang' and someones was 'funhang' you could be made to change it.

Golly that was quick, okay so it has to be completely different from every kennel name there is. thanks very much.

and there was talk a few years ago about cross checking that to other countries names as well although that doesnt appear to have happened quite as planned!

that would make it harder to comeup with a name, how many affix holders in teh world are there???
i did check on the FCI website to see if some one had mine.

What's even more annoyng is that you can't use a kennel name within a name even when it's a normal every day name in a foreign breed.  I try and give my Spanish Spanish KC names but unfortunately many can't be used as someone has an affix with it.

how long do you have to wait to know if you've got your name? want to apply for one then register my pups all before they go to homes! they're 3 week now.

I have recently applied for my kennel name. I received a certificate within two weeks but the name has to go into Septembers Kennel Gazette, the letter that came from the KC said to wait until at least six weeks have passed before I start using the name on any paperwork in case there are any objections received. I doubt you would be able to have your name cleared in time to add it to your current litters names.

[b/and there was talk a few years ago about cross checking that to other countries names as well although that doesnt appear to have happened quite as planned! /b]

I hope that doesn't happen, can you imagine how difficult that would make any new applicants for affixes, they would probably need 50+ goes before they found something acceptable. I guess it is easier with foreign countries having foreign words, but take America for instance, so vast with so many kennel names. I know that my Affix which I thought was unique also belongs to someone in America, it has never caused any problems mainly due to being a different breed, but I think it would make life so difficult if all countries had to be checked. Hope that doesn't happen.
