That was very funny, i do actually love having my kids off and will miss them when they go back to school (i know i'm mad) but i will be glad to not have to keep dishing out money on days out and new school uniforms etc i dont know if it's because the kids are getting older but this year has seemed an exceptionaly expensive school holiday.

I have always prefered holiday to school, as I am undisciplined and not good with routine for too long.
But finally (eldest is 27 this year) I am looking forward to end, when I am free of it all.

could you please just explain this bit? my 4 are aged 19 to 25, 2 at home 2 still at uni and i dont see anything ending! the paying out hard work and worrying continue- for life probably for me!

Only one of mine still at school, he'll be 14 tomorrow so just going into year 10.

But.....3 girls still at home eldest 20, just starting Uni in Bristol, so staying at home, 2nd daughter doing a year of beauty at college, after 2 years of hairdressing, so staying at home and 3rd daughter 16, just passed 14 GCSE's and is off to college, again in Bristol so staying at home.

I love them being at home, can't even think about them moving out, want them to stay :(

Ah......yes I have  a 22yr old who wont leave home....doesn't pay board, takes up aa nice big bedroom that daughter would love
to graduate to. There is no end to being a parent.
I am looking forward to the end of school...reports, parents evenings, speech days, charities days, uniforms, school shoes, I am looking forward to being able to go away with my husband for a weekend and not having to 'organise' children...etc...etc.
When my daughter leaves education, I do believe it will then be job done for me.
I would love then (in an ideal world) to have a couple of free years and then to be a grandparent. Whereby I can hand over responsibility, after maybe a sleepover (at most).

oh :( i have a fair way to go then! My boys are aged 6 and 9 years old! :) love having them home, not having to rush around, but also love the time to myself when they are at school! I dont know about anyone else, but when i was at school, my parents never had to pay for school trips apart from the week long ones, never the day trips, but it seems that every other week i am paying out for school day trips, which are normally around £11+ each! :( and the big one this term that is for a 4 day camping trip will cost me £200 each! Very expensive, but if i was on a certain benefit, single, a sylam (sq) seeker, then i would only need to pay £80 for the trip! I totally agree to a discount to those that are on benefits, single etc, but i will be paying an extra £120 to their £80 and just cant see why the trip is so expensive :( and its not like they are going abroad camping, they are only going to sussex! :(

I'll be glad to get mine back to school, they're bored - but I'll miss having them round the house.

Mine are 12 and 10.  My daughter went to senior school last September so had to shell out for the uniform and sports kit - £22 for a rugby shirt!! Anyway they've changed the sports kit this year so I've got to go and get it all again.  My son is in Year 6 this year so I'm not buying new polo shirts, fleeces etc this year but his headmistress (the b*tch) has decided that they all need a uniform games kit now so that is going to cost £15 to wear for 2 hours on Monday, 1 hour of which is spent swimming.  They used to swim in blocks of 6 weeks so a class went a term, costing £2.20 a week - now that's changed to they're all going every week!

James went to camp last year overnight and that cost £180 (50 miles away).  Next year it's £240 (70 miles away).  Megan wants to go to France next year £500.  And that's along with all the incidental trips - all £10 upwards.  When they were at their other school before we moved it was accepted that if you couldn't pay the full price you could make a voluntary contribution.  They've been told that possibly they won't be able to do the camps next year but that we'll see - fortunately they're of an age that do understand but it must be really difficult with younger children.

No, you never stop being a parent, with all that entails.
