Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Bitch hasn't whelped yet...Questions

I have a bitch who I bred and had great success with her pups. In fact I had a waiting list on her next litter. I did not want to breed her again until next year, so in the mean time I decided to breed my other bitch who has never been bred before. She was bred on June 23rd which would make her due date on August 25th. I started temping her at 57 days (am & pm) and she has been cosistant every day. I had her x-rayed to confirm pregnancy and to see how many pups there are (if this one works....last time they told me how many and we had 2 surprises). My question is, how long can a dog be overdue. I know I don't need to be concerned yet and that they can go over 70 days?? But when do I need to start being concerned?

Hi,i have had a bitch go 5 days overdue with no problems. In fact it was me nagging the vet to see her and him telling me she would be ok for another 2 days.
I put her being late down to the fact she had a small litter for her breed(large gundog).
How many matings did you have?Your girl may have ovulated late.

she could of concieved 4 or 5 days after mating so her due date would then be later than you had thought, the day she is mated is not neccessarily the day she concieved.
I am sure she will be fine :)
Good luck x
