Well done to all junior handlers at WKC this weekend.  You coped really well in such a small ring with some being late.  It would have been nice to have had a commencement call for them, considering how the rings were scattered all over the place.  We were over 10 mins away and only just made the class along with 3 others from over the far side.  Out of courtsey for the juniors it would have been nice, as they prepare long and hard for these classes.

Once again well done to you ALL.  Some good handling from all the competitors.

I wish they (the show) would consider the young handlrs as nine times out of ten we always miss our YKC class as it is on at the same time as the breed,, why do they do this, they take our money but make it impossible to enter, dont they want the youngsters coming through and yes they work very hard for their time in the ring, they deserve better consideration

It is so frustrating isnt it.  The youngsters are so important, for us all, after all who will carry on for us.  so many breed lines disappear, that we need our youngsters to keep the breeds moving on.  It is so expensive to enter that you have to have them handle your own dogs.  olivia has a cocker that she only handles at open shows, but at champ shows the entry fees are far to high, the cost of breed class plus handling class entry. I know these are the rules but wouldn't it be lovely if they changed to to an entry fee that allowed to dog to not enter the breed class but be eligable for JH ie. Breed class entry for JH only of say half the cc breed entry fee then plus the JH class entry.   For example £22 entry with cc would be £11 plus £4 for the JH class, so that would be £15 instead of £26 which it normally would.  That way if you would mind not missing your breed class.

Im not sure how old your child is and whether its suitable for yourselves or her ability but when I was junior handling I very often borrowed a dog from a friend from the breed or someone I knew via local training classes that were also attending the show.

For handling classes you dont actually have to own the dog therefor could borrow somebodies and only have to pay the handling class entry fee.

it is something we have thought of, but there are not many gundog owners near us. so the champ shows can be a struggle.  we are lucky however that she does have a very respectable exhibitor who has in the last couple of days offered to help her get going at the champ level, and she has plenty of wonderful dogs for her to borrow.  thanks for the suggestion and i hope that anyone else who reads this can use the advice to encourage a child.

for me it isnt so much the money as it is throwing my breed class for junior handling, as our champ classes are so huge they usually over run the JH start times. so having her own to handle makes it easier.
