HI, My girl is still panting, she had her pups early monday with no complications but she is stil panting on and off.  The only time she isn't is when she is asleep, dont get me wrong its nothing like when she was having the pups and I know they will still pant for some time after whilst everything is shrinking back.  It maybe the heat and the puppies keeping her warm, just wanted opinions please?

panting can be quite normal in the early stage of giving birth. Have she been seen by your vet after the puppies were born? As long as all the after birth has been counted for, then i would not worry. Just keep an eye on her. But if you are at all concerned it is always best to contact your vet :) x

I have had mine pant for upto 2 weeks after, not just the afterpains but also as you said the heat the last few days wont help.
Are you using a heat pad, if so try to place it in the centre of the box as most bitches lay against the sides of the whelping box and therefore she wont be laying directly on that as this will make her too hot along with all her babies snuggling up.

As long as she is well and eating then just keep an eye on her, if you are really concerned have a chat to your vet but i would imagine it is all ok.
Good luck with your mum and babies :)

Thank you both, that is a good idea!  I have now moved the heat pad to the centre of the whelping box, thank you.

Remember that her body is really working hard now, and I've had bitches pant for well over a week after giving birth.  (Some more than others.)

My bitch did this. Had her to vets and his conclusion was that she was just excited to be a mummy!

If my vet made such a silly observation, I would change to a vet that recognised it for what it is.  I can't believe a vet gave such a stupid response.
