Hi guys

I cant get an appointment till tommorrow night at the vets, my newfoundland has always drank loads of water, over the past few weeks she has been drinking alot more, and the last few days has started howling through the night to be out to get a drink.  Somethings not quite right here.  Her diet hasnt been changed or anything like that but shes now drinking well over 2 of the orange buckets (from B and Q) full off water a day and still wakes two or three times during the night for water.  Anyone had this before?  As I say shes always drank alot more than my other pup but seems to be getting worse now?

my dogs are drinking a lot more water because of the weather temperatures.

I have 4 bowls and 3 dogs they are continually emptying them .

two buckets full a day sounds exessive but you do have a large breed compared to mine.

Could be lots of different things eg Diabetic  but you may also notice other symptoms eg weight loss, coat condition , liver problems ..my cat also was very lethargic and dreamy and sitting over the water bowl .

I have a cat who is a diabetic I inject her twice a day with caninsulin ... she will need a few blood tests to diagnose so good luck at the vets tomorrow ....dont worry could be something or nothing ...

but ..until your vet visit give her all the water she wants ..

It does sound an awful lot. I have 2 buckets the same size for 8 dogs each weighing between 20 and 30 kg and they don't empty for days. My first thought would be pyometra so definitely see the vet asap to play safe.

I would most definitely be making an appointment for the Vets. Pyo was my first thought when I read it was a bitch you were talking about.

Sorry but a pyametra was my first thoughts as well having gone through it once before, when was her last season?
