My dog had surgery on Thursday and so her last meal ( lambs liver ) was Wednesday night. She was nil by mouth and did not eat at the hospital so had nothing other than some meat balls about 5 small ones yesterday afternoon and the same for breakfast today. She has had two wee's but nothing else. She is not allowed out in the garden other than on the lead to toilet, does anyone have experience of the likely time frames here. Scarlet is a welsh springer spaniel and has just had a laryngeal tie back operation.

with a stomach that empty I wouldn't start worrying for a good 24/36 hrs. Hopefully someone else will come in with more definate info. Have you tried her with nature diet/menu or one of the other wet foods, chappie is quite good for post op if you mash it up first.
Best wishes to you and your girl.

Hi Sue,
I've not had many ops done on my dogs but the few times i have they have always been a couple of days before passing anything.I have put it down to a combination of starving before op,anesthetic and the dog generally not being as active. Her timeline sounds pretty normal to me comparing her to ours,
Hope she's back to normal soon.

Thanks for that. Funny enough because I need to hand feed her with little balls of food I bought Naturediet and it is the perfect consistancy. I also bought some  Chappie for her to try. She can no longer have dried food or her beloved gravy bones..

My girly had an op this week and wouldn't eat the day of her op (afterwards) and was on no exercise, it took her 48 hours to go for a poo, she's the kind of girly that needs food or exercise to stimulate her so it took a while to get back to normal.  Is she drining enough? Hopefully your girl will go today.
