hi there, our litter is just over 4 weeks old now, very funny they are but they have now started to eat the news paper that i put down and chewing everything they can. i bought some chew toy's for them but they still seem a little small to use them? is there anything else that i could use as a chew?? thanks kelly x
I use the inner tube from the loo roll ;-) The downside to that is that I can't leave full ones lying around :-) I also give them raw bones to chew on.
Chicken wings are good. I usually cut each one into two pieces until the pups are around 5 weeks or so. The pups will mouth, chew and play with the pieces. After that you can mince the wing pieces and put it in their next meal. They will love them :-)
I too use the inner tube of the loo rolls and kitchen rolls, great lightweight toys, i save them all up in a big bag if i am planning a litter :)
Raw bones too, keep them occupied for ages, i also give them old flannels they love a good tug of war with each other with those and i just wash them with their bedding and give them again until they are no good.
I use chicken wings too and at 4 weeks it keeps them very occupied but once they get to 6-8 weeks they eat them in about 30-45 minutes. It is very good for their teeth too.
I don't have a litter at the moment but I am very interested to know if it would be safe to give a small breed litter raw chicken wings and if so, at what age ? Must say the thoughts of it scares me - risk of choking.
Depends how old they are. From about 3 weeks I give our large breed puppies a piece each, about half a wing cut at the joint. At first they will only gnaw on them, then you can mince the bits and put it in their next meal. By 5 weeks they can have a wing each. You won't find much left by then.
