Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / SO ANGRY!!! The Nerve of Some People
- By Crespin Date 14.08.09 13:11 UTC
Last night, my friend got a puppy.  A Chocolate Lab X Shephard (apparently thats what its mixed with).  Sweet heart of a puppy.
So she said she couldnt get the puppy to eat or drink (at this point it was about 8 hours outside in the hot sun under a blanket).  So I checked out the puppy, noticed some signs of dehydration, and said we need to get some fluids into the pup.  I went home, got some pablum and some syringes.  Mixed the pablum up, and had to force feed this pup.  Also had to force feed water into the pup.
Well, according to my friend, she was told that the puppy was 9 weeks old.  I looked inside her mouth, to check gums, and noticed she didnt have any teeth, and the some teeth she did have, werent all the way through.  Then I remembered that another friend looked at the pups when they were a couple days old, and that was at the beginning of the month.  So it makes this pup between 2-3 weeks old.  My friend has little experience with dogs, fully admits it.
I went to the emergency vets last night to pick up some puppy milk replacer to add to the pablum.  Came home, and we stayed up to well past midnight feeding the puppy.
All the pups in the litter are gone to their new homes.  There were 6 in total.
It makes me so angry that someone would do this.  I have no problem helping out my friend, try to take care of the pup, but there is only so much I can do.  I fronted the milk replacer, but I cant afford to take the pup to the vets for her (hubby gets paid tonight, but if the pup needs it, I would feel so guilty that I cant do more).
ARG!!!!  So angry, that someone would be this mean!  Telling everyone they are 9 weeks old, when they arent!  They cant be more than 4 weeks tops.  But I am guessing younger than that, with when my other friend saw the pups a couple weeks ago, and they were only a couple days old at the time.
ETA: They tried to take her back to the puppy producer last night, but she wouldnt take the pup back, and ignored them.

that is terrible, those poor puppies and their poor mum :( i just hope that the other owners have taken action and are giving the puppies some puppy milk :( i would put an ad in your friends local paper and ask the other puppy owners to contact her about this and i would also report this to the rspca and show them how young the poor puppy is and his condition and hope the other puppy owners come forward and talk to the rspca too.

OMG that's just terrible!!! You've done a great job of helping as much as you can.

That's disgusting, thank god Crespin that your friend has someone like yourself to help and give advice, or the pup might not have seen the day out, I hope the little one manages to thrive on the puppy milk.

Gemini05 - Very good idea, I would certainly not be letting this lie, it isn't just mean, it is actually animal cruelty IMO and this breeder needs to be stopped from doing such a thing again.

Just shocking.

i have heard of a puppy coming from scotland to norfolk! only 6 weeks. suposed to be 9
when they got it it wasnt walking about and teh breeder said it had to be sudated. the new owner wasnt happy but took teh puppy. the following morning it was still not walking and moving about.
the vet looked andsaid it is so mal-nurished he didnt know why it wasnt dead. so the owner, took it to the police and found out that the breeder was band from breeding dogs in england, for being a puppy farmer.

Might be worth contacting these people http://www.nopuppymillscanada.ca/ with the story, they are bound to know what the legal aspects are.

I went over to see the puppy this morning, and she seems to be doing much better.  They stayed up with her all night, feeding and giving water to her every couple hours.  She is more alert this morning, and hopefully continues getting better.

The puppy still hasnt pooed yet, since yesterday, so I tried to get her to go to the washroom by rubbing kleenex on her bum, but it didnt work.  So I dont know what else to try, to get this puppy to go to the washroom.  She is urinating ok, though.

I am still so mad at the people that bred her mom.  And I feel sorry for those who took the pups, thinking they were 9 weeks old, when its obvious they are not.

My friend is trying, bless her, as she is angry as well, for being lied to.  Once it was figured out how old the pup actually could be, she was so scared, because she never has had a dog that young.  Her youngest, she said, was 10 weeks old, so already done all the weaning, and puppy care as far as young pups go.

I will check out the link, and contact the SPCA, to go take a look at the mom.  I do think that with the right support, my friend will be able to get this pup through.  She was just not expecting this at all.

Oh, she named the pup Cocoa, since she looks like a piece of chocolate!

hi crespin ,sounds like pup hasnt been wormed "ever"...maybe pup is worm bound and thats why its not had a poo ....i hope things get better for the poor pup :( x

This post has made me shiver!!!

This poor puppy and poor Dam, puppies taken away so young she is no doubt very stressed herself.

I imagine the puppy wont poo as it probably has taken in much in the way of food just yet, if she is doing better then just makes sure she urinates and give her a little longer to see if she can poo with a little stimulation from a warm damp cloth.

let us know how the puppy does...bless its little heart, as for the breeder, definately needs reporting as that is cruelty to both puppies and mother.....evil people, they make my blood boil :(

Just shocking. I am appalled! Well done you for stepping in and helping that poor pup! I really hope it pulls through! Good luck xxx

Finally got the pup to poop!  It took a lot of work, rubbing her bum and pressing on her stomach, but finally!
But now there seems to be a pussy fluid coming from her vulva, something I havent seen nor heard of before.  If the dog had a heat, then I would think it could be Pyo, but obviously way to young to be Pyo.
Some of the other puppy buyers have been contacted, and told what is going on.  Apparently, the other pups are doing ok.  Just this little sickly one.
My friend is so tired, bless her.  But she is trying her best, so thats all you can ask for, when really, right now, its play by ear.  I stressed that the dog needs to go see a vet, so hopefully the vet can figure out what is going on with this pup.
People like the "breeder" (and I use the term very very loosely) need a good smack.  My mom and I are so angered about this, and my mom is even using cuss words (she doesnt use them often!)

Our friend came over tonight all excited as she lost track of the count at 7cc of puppy milk, the best we have been able to get into her yet.
I look at the chart I got from the vets when we were having to force feed our pups because of the dreaded poos, and guessing that Coco is about the same wieght as Star was at the time this makes if very close to the amount of fluids were had to get into her.  Coco seem normally bright, so we have our hopes causiously up.
All anyone can do is get the most fluids and milk in her that her stomach will talerate and pray.

i hope she continues to feed well and is soon a happy healthy puppy :)
- By pugnut [gb] Date 16.08.09 09:34 UTC
That is shocking!

I hope they get to at least name and shame the 'breeder' through the local papers. Maybe a local news channel might be interested in running a piece on it?

No doubt the 'breeders' have no shame and wouldnt give two hoots but at least it would warn others.

Fingers crossed the pup makes it x

I am so sad to read this - how is the pup now?

have you managed to get anywhere with reporting the breeder?
- By magica [gb] Date 21.08.09 11:22 UTC
Sad story, it happens in the uk as well, my friend has a British bulldog who has just had pups, a family member breeds them and has let my friend have her and just use's her as another breeding bitch, he has about 7 at home, it has taken 4 years to get her pregnant i think this being the 4th attempt, she stayed with the breeder 2 days before she had a C section had 5 pup's one had a cleft palate so PTS, second one its legs not good so PTS-  3 pup's survived and I found out that mum is back home now with her proper family already and her babies are only 4 weeks old and have been left with the breeder! apparently mum would not feed them anymore so he had weaned them, but I think sad that they have been separated so young from mum !

Cocoa is still alive, and has gotten bigger.  Her teeth are now in, and she is eating kibble on her own.  She is still underweight, as you can still see the ribs, and other boney structures.

She still hasnt been checked out by a vet though!  Which makes me throw my hands in the air.  That pup should have gone to the vet the first day!  So still dont know if anything is getting better.

As far as reporting, nothing has been accomplished.  This "breeder" will be able to breed again, risking lives of not only the mom, but the pups as well.  I wish something could be done!

British bulldog who has just had pups, a family member breeds them and has let my friend have her and just use's her as another breeding bitch

Why would your friend agree to this???
- By magica [gb] Date 21.08.09 11:46 UTC
Because its her other half's brothers doing...she was upset after taking the dog on 4 yrs ago now that he had asked about 4 other friends all saying no- until he asked his brother to have this bitch for him, he pays all the vet bills and buys her food. On the understanding its still his dog and that she will have pups, I know he doesn't like me as I'm good friends with both of them and have helped them out with advice and things I've said have worked, as they had a collie bitch in the house before she arrived and they were worried how they would be with each other which has put this brothers nose out of joint. I suppose all they think about is there little girl and assume that the breeder knows what hes doing? He's had about 5 litters now in total from his breeding stock.
