Just curious as to what other people would have done in this situation? Sorry about the essay but thought it made more sense with the whole story!!
Puppy sold on Sunday, both husband and I had met the man several times and he was a really nice man, seemed really excited about getting him, had been to pet shop before coming to collect him and showed us all the stuff he had got for him.
Wednesday night received a phone call from said man to say that he had taken the dog to the vets for a health check and he has a problem with one of his eyes, would I take him back. Asked about vets re do they specialise with this particular breed etc, that mine did and they never picked up on anything when they checked him (I had sent him with the vet paperwork so that he had proof that he had been vet checked). Said that I would like a second opinion before we decided on what to do, he wasn't happy with that, he didn't want him anymore, he couldn't cope with what the vet had told him, puppy's eye was in a mess all blood shot, it was going to cost £400 to put it right, he wanted me to have him back and he wanted his money back. Discussed with husband and we decided that rather than leave the puppy with someone who obviously didn't want him, we would give the man a refund and take the puppy back. Spoke to the man who said he would not return the puppy I would need to go and collect him. By this time I was beside myself with worry about the pup so drove over there straight away yesterday morning. Absolutely nothing wrong with the pup's eye from what I could see (not blood shot or anything like the man had said). Gave the man his money, spoke to kennel club who put a stop on the paperwork and made the man write a letter to them to stop the transfer and write a note saying that I had given him full refund.
Took the pup straight to my vet who specialises in my breed and explained what had happened. He checked the pup over and said he does have an extremely minute problem with 1 eye. Not something that would EVER cause a problem as it is so small and due to it being so small this is why it wasn't picked up when I had him checked. Said that he thought that the vet was A) trying to get money from him or B) the vet was completely anti my breed. No treatment needed but if I was to sell him on again I would obviously need to make new owner aware of this.
If I'm honest I don't think I will sell him on as I think he's been through a lot in his little life, has fitted back in well and I know I did the right thing but just wondered if anyone else had experienced anything like this?
