Just wondered how people's young pups cope at open and champ shows at 6 months.
My older boy wasn't put into the ring until he was an older puppy, just because i was still learning how to handle him in the ring.
I have taken my young pup to watch a few shows and tbh he gets tired pretty quickly.

Just wondered what the pro's and con's were from those who have shown very young pups, much as it would be nice to qualify him for Crufts sooner rather than later and possibly start collecting JW points, is it worth it by putting the pup through many shows, which for me are very tiring

Suppose it depends on the breed but my Pom's and Spanish have never been bothered, but of course I take a cage/box for them so that they can sleep or do whatever they want.

Mine have been fine to do 2 classes, and like Perrodeagua I have a crate so they can sleep between classes if they are tired.

Put my youngest in 2 classes at the breed Ch Show at 6 months and 2 days - nice family-sized show, loads of Bedlies but no other breeds   After a 2 hour journey I thought she'd sleep most of the time, go in the ring and then possibly sleep some more :-D    How wrong could I be?   Her litter brother was there too and they played and 'messed about' almost the whole time.   She went in 2 classes then another 2 as she won

tired???    I was exhausted by the end but she didn't want to go in her crate to come home

It very much depends on the individual pup really :-D

Thanks i have entered him so far into one open and one champ and was just rethinking the idea, luckily the champ show is only 1hr away. Will just see how he gets on. Ringcraft tires him out a lot, once round and he is done for, try him again at the end of the session and he just slugs about.

Maybe he's just bored???

I've stopped taking my youngest to ringcraft as she's always naughty just for something to do :(

Is the ringcraft in the evening, as this may be the reason he seems tired.

Whatever we do whether it be ringcraft or obedience which start from 6pm through to 8pm and they are either 1 or 2hr sessions he seems to want to stop.
If we do ringcraft sessions at home they are 5 mins here and there and he will concentrate on what he is to do.

What i'm going to do i think is try a companion show tomorrow and see how we get on, then i'll have a better idea on what to do.

I think that the most important thing is to take a canvas crate.  When they are shut in there with their own vetbed and maybe a toy, then they are much more likely to rest than just sitting watching, frightened to miss anything. :)

That maybe an idea, not thought of that and they are light? and easy to carry into a show?
For an open show i can always pop back to my car with the monster and let him sleep in there, as for a Ch show he'd be first in and then he can do what he likes unless i have done a stakes class with him hang on...................................

Yup it would be right stakes class for his first champ show..

Yes they're very light and easy to carry.  I couldn't manage to carry a metal one these days. :)
I use them whenever I'm away from home so if I'm staying with friends and go out, I know that my dogs will be safe in their new surrounds and if (it's never happened but...) they are sick or have an upset tummy, then I know that they won't damage friends' carpets etc.
In my breed most people take them to shows for their dogs of all ages.

I have a canvas crate. It is great for my boy, he just lies there and goes to sleep. My 4 year old bitch has torn the mesh at the front, though. She hated it and wanted out :-( I can't use it for her. I haven't tried her 2 year old daughter in it yet. Maybe I should soon as I may need it :-)

I have found them such a boon too, but obviously should be used when you know the dog will not try to chew or claw out of one, so initially use under supervision.
