Our Dogs or Dog World?
- By Goldmali Date 20.08.09 12:18 UTC
You need both as sometimes reports only appear in one.

agree with Marianne - I get both - bit hit and miss which it will / won't appear in and who gets first!

I find that Our Dogs tend to get the critiques in much quicker than Dog World but find that some judges only send critiques to one paper and not both.

I agree, I've found the Our Dogs gets the critiques in quicker too. I get both - I get Dog World through the post, and I subscribe to Our Dogs online and read the digital version, usually on a Weds morning :)

Thanks for replies. Have subscribed to Our Dogs online and will rely on a friend who takes Dog World to fill in any gaps ;)

I know from judging friends that they appreciate that Our dogs do not edit the judges critique.  Cutting things out or altering punctuation can totally change the meaning and tone of a critique.

DW appear to have got their act together recently and the critiques r appearing quicker now.  for instance we were showing at Bournemouth on the Monday and the critique was in DW on the THurs.

Has anyone noticed the Cavalier or AV Toy report for Newmarket btw? It hasn't been in DW that I've noticed.

So should I have been looking in these for the Bournemouth results?

I have been checking dogbiz, but the only ones that appear on these are Great Danes.

Hope I haven't missed it :-(

That's true and it's really very annoying. OH says he's considering only sending his next critiques to OD and writing to DW to tell them why. Not sure why they do it really, often it doesn't seem to make the report much shorter so would seem to be meddling for the sake of it.

I know someone who has written to DW about it, but to no avail.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 22.08.09 07:40 UTC
That's such a shame, because otherwise DW is a far superior paper IMO.

If you want to read the critique as the judge wrote it, get Our Dogs.  They are usually quicker for reports too.  You can use the online version to search for critiques over several years, either by keyword (e.g., dog/owner's name) and year, or by the specific show.  Dog World seems to me to be rather better for news and other articles.
I've only had one slip up with Our Dogs, which was last year, when they failed to publish a critique I sent within one month of the show, despite two chase-up emails.  Guess I left it to long before I sent the first chase-up. :-( They didn't reply to either email.  It was published in Dog World, and I published it myself online on a breed specific website.
I've finished my Bournemouth critique, and it will be sent to both papers this weekend.

Ditto my breed is always quick into DW and I think the paper is better than OD although I get both.
- By Vanhalla [gb] Date 02.09.09 10:00 UTC
My critique is in both papers today.  Our Dogs has published it exactly as I wrote it, Dog World have edited it in places by running the sentences together divided only by commas, and left it alone in other places.  Full marks for speed though for them both.
