Some of you may remember that we had to come straight back home on the first day of our holiday as Barney swallowed a sponge and needed an operation to remove it.
We put in a claim to our pet insurance provider for the cost of the vet fees, and for the cancelled holiday.  I've just found out that they are sending a cheque for the vet fees, but only for half of the cost of the holiday as they are saying they will only reimburse the cost of the policyholder's holiday.  This seems like a bit of a weasel clause to me: there was no option to insure the dog in joint names, and I had just assumed that the policy would work like household contents insurance where the policy is in one person's name but everyone in the household is covered.  There is nothing in the policy which says only the policyholder's, rather than the household's, holiday costs will be covered. In any case, it was a holiday that was paid for solely by myself and not by my partner.  Does anyone have any thoughts on whether it would be worth appealing this?

Was it a cottage you had rented? Any time I've rented a cottage the price has been the same no matter how many were in the party. If I had went on my own it would have been the same price as for four of us. Insurance companies will try anything to get out of paying.

Yes, it was a cottage.  That is a good point.

Which insurance provider?   When I phone to get puppy cover for my new puppy owners, Petplan always ask me if there is someone else to go as named on the policy.

Furriefriends - yes, the cottage was rented in my name only.
Jean - the insurer is Healthy Pets.  I've been just on their website again and you can only enter one name as the policyholder.

I would push for the whole amount you are the policyholder and also rented the cottage surely that is the cost you should beable to reclaim. The insurance companies are getting so tricky!
I must say all my policies are in my name the household ones husbands name and have never been asked by any of my companies if I wanted joint names.  Haven't been with pet plan for years maybe they are different ,excellent polices but too expensive for me unfortunately
