Ok, my girl was mated on her 11th and 13th day.  I also used the ovulation pads, these changed colour on her 15th day so she was again mated on the 16th.  Now as you will see I nearly have a whole week which she could be due from sunday 23rd to 28th.   I did have her scanned at 4 weeks from day 13 mating and the vet siad they looked between 21-25 days old.  This add's even more time and could make her due as late as 1st september making her due date any time within a 2 week time scale.
Now the problem is the ovulation pads are they relaible and how good was the vet?
At the moment she is huge i can't see her lasting another week, my breeder says to go from day 13 to the expected date, would you all agree?
I don't like to take her temperature, I haven't found it too reliable in the past.  I want be leaving her, just can't wait now for them to arrive.

I wouldn't pay any attention to vets when it comes to breeding. Had one tell me pups were conceived 3 weeks previously (judging by the size) when I knew for certain the bitch had only been mated once and that was 5 weeks before. I always count from day of first mating, allowing day 58 as the first possible day (i.e. the day I will not leave the house), and all my litters have arrived between day 59 and 64 using that method.

Thank you both for your responces!
They generally go a day either side.  She also has plenty of milk in already, does anyone know if this is any kind of sign?  In the past mine only got her milk when the pups were born.

I have used the ovulation pads and got a false positive on the 9th day, with no other positive result thereafter. If I had to travel a distance to the stud, this could have been a missed mating as the stud did not show interest in mounting her until 8.20pm on the 12th day with a 25 minute tie and another on the 15th day, as I was away at the airport on the 14th. Fortunately I just used them out of curiosity alongside an experienced stud who stayed with me and swabs, both of the latter being spot on!
I always calculate by the first mating day to 58 days and from then on, as long as she hasn't given you anything to be concerned about beforehand, just keep a close eye on the bitch and don't leave her.

> I always count from day of first mating,

Ditto Marianne, and I have had bitches mated up to over a five day period.

Thanks again, she has had a very sticky discharge today.  I am constantly watching her every move, she probably wonders what all the fuss is about!  She could have them as early as Saturday or not for another 2 weeks.  It is a horrible waiting game, I am sure it will be worth it in the end!

sounds like your going to have a very busy weekend :) Good Luck xx

Is the sticky discharge a good sign then? it has been a while since our last litter and I can't remember?

I've had girls with a whole week between matings, have always taken the first mating to count due date.  It's always been fine.  I have a breed that will whelp anything up to 7 days early with no problems.  Some don't have milk come in until after giving birth.

Having tried the ovulation pads, I might as well have saved my money.  Not reliable for me anyway.

could be sign things are starting but it can still take upto a week ,but my girl got that afew day before whelping .

What a night, but still no puppies.  The last two days Fri, Sat she has done nothing but sleep, I saw that as a good sign that she was preparing herself.  However last night she kept me up so restless, barking to get my attention (she was in the same room as me).  I checked her, put her out in the garden, nothing.  She was even panting allot and scratching at her bed, and now this morning all she wants to do is run round the house, she has jumped onto the sofa which two days ago would not do and we would not let her but she snuck out in front of us so quick.  There is still plenty of movement in the puppies, so I hope she has done them no harm.  Can anyone tell me this new found energy is it a good sign?  Her last mating will be 63 days on Friday so I could have another five days to go, I do hope not.  I don't mind sleepless nights when they are for a good cause, but not when she is just winding me up!

LOL The energy is a good sign and the jumping on the sofa, even when not allowed, mine did exactly the same. In that case, she was close to having the pups and was looking for her prefered place to make a nest! I don't think they really care about the rules of the house at such a time. Of course, panting and scratching is all normal and it sounds as hopefully it will not be much longer for your girl! I would watch her like a hawk now, but sure you are already. Good luck.
