I'm looking for a fairly good size pet store in the Bicester and or surrounding areas. Can anyone help me please. Thanks so much! Shirl :-0

If you really love yorkies, Iloveyorkies, then I would buy one from a breeder not a pet shop. Have you read the current posts on the board (Pet Shops), perhaps you should. Ja:)kie

Hang about Jackie, she may not be wanting to buy a dog from one, lets hope so anyway! :D :D

Why would she be looking for a fair size one in her area, Oh may be she want to buy the store. Or do you think the person may be an animial lover and wishes to go along make an inspection and a fuss, if so I am very sorry to have missunderstood.

She may just want to go and have a browse at a larger selection of pet products to get her yorkies their christmas pressies!!! I love looking at the larger pet product retailers, none of which actually sell any animals!! Julie:)

Jackie the simple answer could be that her small local petstores don't have the selection she requires and as Christmas is coming up she wants more choice.I always visit the petstores when I go out of my home town to see if theres anything I've missed. If I can find them that is.:D Gillian

Sorry, I love yorkies, can you just clarify that you are looking for a pet store that sell's doggie accessories, ie, grooming equipment, bowls etc??

Sorry everyone! I'm NOT looking for a Yorkie. I'm getting one in 2 weeks from a breeder. I should have specified that I was looking for dog accessories. So Sorry. I don't believe in purchasing a dog from a pet store. I have been to several pet "shops" and they are small and so they do not have a large selection of toys, etc. Phew!!!!! Don't want to make anyone angry on here. :-) Shirl

I don't know about your area so I can't help- don't you have a *pets at home* near you- I thought that since they're nationwide- most of us on here had/have one close? Good luck with the dog by the way- did you manage to find a name for her after all?:)

I have not seen a "Pet's At Home" around here at all. I looked in the phone book and it wasn't in there either. Thanks for the wishes of luck. I'm so excited I'm about to burst!!! We still have not decided on a name. I really do like "Precious" alot. Hubby and son hate it. But I may win yet!!!! Shirl :-)

Thats OK then, I jumped to the wrong conclusion and I'm sorry, think it must have been the other post with a very similar name. Sorry again, grovel grovel & I hope you have much joy with your new pup. Ja:)kie
Oh you still need a large pet shop - have you tried look around the net useing a search engine.
By Iloveyorkies
Date 24.11.02 22:29 UTC
It's okay Jackie. Yes I have been searching on the net as well. I thought maybe someone on here could point me in the right direction. I'm not familiar with two many areas outside of Bicester, store's I mean. I"ll do some more hunting on the net, see what I can come up with. I'm sure my pup will bring me and my family much joy. Thanks. We are all so excited to get her. Shirl :-)

Shirl,
Don't do it!! They are just a money trap, esp at this time of year. If you don't know where one is you will be much safer and richer. My dogs have more toys than some kids and I still come out with a new one every time I go in. I recently got a super one for Cava, a tennis ball covered in fur with a piece of fur shaped like a beaver's tale attached with a squeak inside. Mine love it and so does every dog at training, sorry but it might be too big for a Yorkie.
Hope you find someplace and spend lots of money, have fun and enjoy the pup when she(?) comes,
Anne :-D;-)

LOL Anne, there's two near me - one in Canterbury - but one opened Saturday even closer, but still a drive away - I waved the leaflet that came through the door announcing the opening under hubby's nose and strangely he said the car wasn't working properly and he had to work on it all weekend in the garage

!!!! Hmmmmm julie:)

Anne :-) :-) :-) So funny!!!!! You may be right. I check out the pet supplies online and before I know it I'm over 100 quid and have to start deleting!!! Yes, she is a she!! 2 more weeks to go and we'll be able to bring her home. Yee Ha! :-) Shirl

Another thought if you pop a few miles up the road to the NEC whilst the LKA show is on you should find lots & lots of things to spend your money on.
Ja:)kie

Yes and the prices are better, and the variety is endless! It is on the 13th and 14th of December.
Sporting breeds on Friday (Terriers, Hounds and Gundogs) and Saturday will be Toys (Yorkies to see!), and the rest!

Thanks ALL for your help! Jackie, I'm sorry but I'm going to be a new dog owner, plus I'm an American living in England, so I do not know what the NES or the Lka is? Would you mind telling me please? Thanks a bunch. :-) Shirl

Sorry, just reread my reply. It should be NEC!! Fingers moving faster than brain!!! Shirl :-)

The National Exhibiton Centre near Birmingham. Birmingham International Railway station and Airport are on the same site.
the Ladies Kennle Club show is like Crufts, but better. None of the hype, and more for the dogs and their owners.

The NEC is in Birmingham, and the LKA is a big dog show, but as its the last before christmas its great for all the last min pressies and has a great holiday atmosphere, its on Dec 13/14 not sure which day yorkies are there, but it is a great day out.:)

Hi Shirl, as you see my secretariat have answered your questions re: NEC & LKA and I'm sorry, we dog showing people think that every one else knows what we are talking about. Mind you have you ever tried to read a text msg sent by a teenager?

There is a good pet store in Banbury called Crofts. It is at the back of the main High street behind Littlewoods. It is quite reasonable in price. There is parking. Also there is Jollyes at Milton Keynes at Westcroft which is just off the A421 as you enter MK. The retail park has a large safeways supermarket. They are very cheap and some items are a lot cheaper than the show trade Stands.
Are you living in base housing at Bicester. If you are we may well live around the corner from you!!
By Iloveyorkies
Date 25.11.02 10:25 UTC
Jackie, never had to read a text from a teenager, but my youngest is 15 so just talking to him everyday is enough. They seem to have their own language!!!
Thanks for the info on the pet stores Jan. Yes I do live in base housing in Bicester on Blencowe. Thats pretty cool that you live around the corner. Are you an American? Thanks again everyone! Shirl :-)

Date 25.11.02 19:58 UTC
Hi Shirl,
I, too, live around the corner from you, AND I'm an American!! I live in Fairhaven Road, just around the corner from Jan. I'll keep an eye out for you and your new baby when I'm walking my lot on the baseball field ( I know it says 'no dogs allowed' but I tend to sneak in when there is nobody around as it's the only place my Lurcher can go off the lead as it's enclosed!)
There is also a really good pet shop at Stokenchurch- it sounds a long way away but it's only 25 mins from here. It's called the Kennel Shop, and it's just off the M40.
Good luck with your new puppy!

I'm often at in the Stokenchurch place, I only live a couple of miles or so down the road at High Wycombe. (Unfortunatly I'm a very old Englishman!)

Best wishes, John

Hi John! I like old Englishmen! There's nothing wrong with that!! :-) I hope I didn't sound uppity,(sp) didn't mean to. I have some very good English friends. My son goes to school in High Wycombe!!! Long ride for him every day. Maybe I'll see you sometime in Stokenchurch. I'll just look for an old Englishman. :-) :-) Shirl
By John
Date 25.11.02 21:47 UTC
You don't sound uppity to me Shirl. It's been said before on the board, the written word is so open to misunderstanding that every time we post we should expect someone to get it wrong. Thats life and as long as we realise it then no harn is done. I've been misunderstood so many times but I don't care 'cos I know I'm perfect! ;)
Best wishes, John
By Iloveyorkies
Date 25.11.02 23:57 UTC
Glad there was not a misunderstanding. I've noticed it does happen on this board at times. Sometimes I'm afraid to give my opinion. I don't have a lot of knowledge about dogs, so it's best I keep my views to myself. :-) Glad to know someone in this world is perfect!!! :-) :-) Shirl

It was me who did all of the missunderstanding, I am ashamed to say that I have allowed some of the deliberate inflaming posts of late to get to me, I am the sort that take people at their face falue and belive what I am told. Having found time after time my concern and advice is to no avail because I'm being taken for a ride has made me wary and in your case I'm sorry to say I jumped to the wrong conclusion.
Have considered leaving the board of late because we are getting so many unpleasent posts, it used to be a happy, helpfull, chatty club, we did get the odd flare up, but of late it has been a least one a day.
You were not to blame for my behaviour and Im sorry.

I have to agree with you Jackie. Some come here just to stire up trouble. Trouble is we then start trying to read into all new peoples posts to try to deturmine if by any chance they could also be trouble makers. I hate the thought of hurting someone by flaming them when they are genuine but get so annoyed when I see others trying to destroy the board.
Best wishes, John

Couldn't have said it better you two:o Due to the number of posts such as puppy wanted for Christmas, I want to breed etc it's hard not to take the posts the wrong way:rolleyes: Especially with the undercover puppy farm employee etc

So don't feel bad Jackie- it was only a mis-understanding which is quite expected due to the current situation on this board with hoaxes;) At least we haven't heard of the main one lately- the nseg:o :o :o :o :o I won't say it fully for I fear it may be like *Candyman*- say it three times and he'll probably appear:D

I've been reading all the posts on this forum for the last few weeks. Due to get my pup in about 6 weeks so I haven't posted that much.....yet.
You tend to see the same names cropping up (like yours) and now I consider you as my 'Font of All Knowledge'!!
Haven't had a pup for about 16 years so reaaallly excited :)

Hi Jackie, don't leave, you have a lot of knowledge to share with others and it would be a shame to give up 1) the chattiness and friendliness of this forum and 2) the information shared therein, I can understand why long standing members of this board get fed up with the constant flare ups, I haven't been on here long and found it off-putting, not to say bl**dy annoying when my own questions have been hijacked by certain trolls to start an argument over, and therefore loosing all the geniune answers amoungst the snipes at each other. I also agree that it is hard to ignore some of the deliberately inflaming things people post - However, some people are genuinely ignorant (Not meant in a nasty way at all) about their dogs and their welfare and post some seemingly ridiculous (sp)questions - especially it seems regarding breeding, but these genuine people are posting because they need help and advice - even if it is to say 'don't do it!!!' -that is to say they seem 'ridiculous' to experienced breeders but not to the poster - and the main problem I think is deciphering a geniune poster from these bloomin trolls. I had my doubts (sp) about the latest (Dogs4Us) going on the name 'Eye-spy' but until they kick off you cannot tell WHO they are! You get trolls on almost all sites trying to stir up trouble, my hubby had one recently on VW Camper forum going on about the BNP, a first time poster????? If you leave ,then the goal has been achieved, they have caused enough trouble to make somebody leave the forum- I wouldn't give them the satisfaction. I think we (hark at me! 'we') have to take posts on face value and have some faith in humankind and then if the poster is obviously out to cause trouble then everyone just stop replying to that particular poster, surely they will get fed up and go away! Just keep on answering the original post (as sometimes they seem to jump onto other peoples threads to stir it up a bit) ! It is a real shame when new members feel reluctant to post in case they get 'told off' because everyone is now assuming there is a hidden agenda behind questions - Personally I would say carry on as always - what else can we do! and certainly don't bloomin well leave :D julie:)

Don't you dare, how are we elkhound owners to rival the Malamute board take over if you leave. spitz breeds rule OK!
Only joking folks, I love all the other breeds too, just a tad biased to our curly tailed prick eared friends!

Jackie please know that I would never take you for a ride. My questions may be petty at times, but I ask because I don't know. Please don't quit the board. I think everyone learns from your knowledge. And please don't be ashamed. Your only human! Your apology is accepted but really not neccessary, but thank you and thanks for your help. Shirl :-)
By Jackie H
Date 26.11.02 18:44 UTC
Thanks to those of you who have posted to suport me, I don't supose for one moment that I will quit, but I do get a bit fed up of being jerked around. And I hate the idea that people can change the way I look at other peoples motives, I have lived a long while trusting people and expecting them to trust me, I know I talk straight sometimes, particulaly where animals are conserned, but would never hurt deliberatly and always keep a confidence. But I think that, for a while anyway, I will be feeling the water and if I'm not sure will have to wait and see. I do feel very sorry that this board has changed so much.

Hi Jackie,
I've not been posting on this board for long, but having seen some of the posts which seem ridiculous I'm not surprised you get wary! Please don't stop, your help and advice to 'beginners' like me is invaluable, and for every faker/joker posting there must be tens more who are genuine and appreciate your experiance.
Dont let them get you down :)

Hi Liz! Small world eh?? I don't know where Fairhaven road is, but I'm sure it would be easy to find. Yes maybe I'll see you in a few weeks. She'll have to have all her shots before I can take her out walking. Thanks for letting me know about the Kennel Shop. I'll have to check all these new places out. I wouldn't worry to much about taking your lurcher to the baseball field. All they can do is tell you to leave if they see you. No big deal. Shirl :-)
