I have a litter of 2 smallish breed pups. they are 18 days today. Just wondered when to start weaning them? at the moment they are being fed exceptionally well by mum and are very content fat little pigs. (wish I could let her feed my larger breed litter as their mum is really struggling).
As they are so contented should I leave weaning for a few more days or should I start anyway?

I dont even think of weaning my Cavaliers until around 4 weeks and even then, they dont really want it until 5 and sometimes later :-(

Thanks. I will leave it a week or two. They certainly don't look like they need it but wasn't sure.

Is there a reason why she couldn't help out with one or two (if she accepted them, of course)?

She won't let them and I don't think I would want her to anyway. They are 4 weeks old now and have teeth and are rough little things. She does go in with them and looks puzzled if they squeal  but she won't let them feed from her and I don't blame her. They are getting weaned fairly quickly as their mum is finding them very hard work at the moment.
If the litters had been reversed with the larger puppies younger than the smaller ones I might have tried it.

no, I am doing them regularly.

Mines are generally just starting a little 4 weeks. Small terrier breed.
