Hi all,
Would like some advice if possible. Reggie has developed a very sensitive tummy. Raging dire rear been under vets for over a month, AB's etc. Kind of his own fault as he decided to eat some liquitabs!!! Yes I know not clever, could have been far worse. he climbed five shelves up to reach them in my walk in cupboard and passed and ignored biscuits crisps and cake to get there but there lies another story!!!!
Anyway he was, up until this point on Burns mini bites, seemed happy enough i was happy he was on a quality food per say, anyway while the rear end was at its worse we had him on tins of ID from vet to calm it down. It worked! Then tried to slowly ween him back onto Burns No good, runs again straight away, and i did it slowly we are talking two or three biscuits at a time.Well back to ID then re try each go was a disaster. Anyway got him some RC mini sensible, (not ideal I know, should not in an ideal world change their foods BUT it works a treat, he loves it (far more than the Burns) no runs!!!! Hooray!
Well the only thing that worries me is that it is not actually a puppy food. So I am torn if it were your dog would you accept and be happy his tummy is calm or keep trying to get him onto puppy? Yes I have asked the vet who said ideally puppy. I am worried now as 6 weeks of.....well dire rear over kitchen floor is wearing (so much from such a little dog!!) and now its calm I am reluctant to mess again......BUT want him to get all he needs for joints, growth etc. Nb RC do do puppy for small breeds but it is not the sensible (for sensitive tums)
AAAaaahhhhhh
Any thoughts
Thanks

I use RC mini sensible as well as Natures menu in tins for my 2 toy poodles one of whom is very fussy and they both look super on these foods. Have you considered trying the Royal Canin junior kibble my 2 had this when they were puppies although I don,t think it is rice based like the sensible one, if this is likely to be a problem. I have tried Burns mini bites in the past but my two weren't so keen on it so even though the RC is higher in protein this is what i have settled on.

I was worried sick that my BC boy was the only dog I've ever owned that wasn't brought up on puppy food.   I tried every sensitive food until I found what suited him.  He was put on half dry and half wet.  The wet being tinned Chappie.

As it was so wonderfult to clear up proper poos, he never, ever went back to puppy food.  He is 4 years old, and at his last annual check the vet mentioned what wonderful condition he was in.

As I said, I used to worry that he didn't get puppy food, but you have to do what is right for your dog.  There isn't any way that you can tell he wasn't fed properly!!   :-)

We had the same issue with Jazz, when he was 4 months old he stole some grapes and for the next 5 months it was awful - no matter what we or the vet tried it didn't work.

We finally tried dried sensitive instead of puppy and the difference was amazing so we didn't go back to puppy. He is now 14months and he is a healthy weight and full of beans.

If Reggie is doing ok on the sensitive I'd leave him on it.

Had this exact same problem with my border collie puppy, he was on Beta puppy from breeder but motion was very loose. I changed him onto RC junior and his much much better now. I think you just have to find what suits them and stick to it. Wouldn't worry too much about him not having puppy food in particular as long as you are feeding a good quality food.
