Me and my friend have just booked a holiday to Goa in India but my family are quite worried about me going. Has anyone been and what is it like? Ive never been to India so it will be a whole new experience for me. :-)

my friend from india says its a rip off as pretty much everywhere else in coastal india is lovely and much cheaper and less touristy.

apparently its nice though and maybe a bit touristy is a good thing for somewhere so out of your comfort zone.

My sister has been to Goa and said it was nice, but there was alot of stray dogs about on the streets

My friend went last year she loved it,monkeys in the gardens of the hotel,little brown pigs everywere and water buffolo on the beach,

I went with a friend of mine and we had problems with male locals following us around (I can assure you we had done nothing to encourage this), it got so bad we even requested an early flight home. 

The beaches are beautiful (watch out for seasnakes!), everything is cheap (even in the tourist areas) and weathers fantastic.  But the towns are filthy (people toileting at the road side), they are CRAZY drivers (will quite happily run you over to miss a cow!.........but then I'm a bit like that too!!), and lots of stray dogs.

I wouldn't go again, but it was worth a visit, and I don't think your family should be any more concerned than if you were going elsewhere.  Enjoy...............it's a fascinating place!

Im really excited now. My friend went last year and she thinks I'll like it. We're going to wash the elephants! :-D
