We are up in Ipswich for a week next week with the dogs and I would like to find some walks for them. Ideally we prefer somewhere quieter and not overrun with people and other dogs (as we have one which is grumpy). Not bothered about walk type, length or anything like that. Thanks for any suggestions!
head towards Rendlesham forest or Tunstall if you want to walk forestry type areas or across to the coast Bawdsey, Shingle Street, Orford area. Needham lakes area tends to be a bit too 'organised' for me :-)
My hubby says Ipswich park itself (or the park in Ipswich town centre if it has another name) is a good place to walk dogs, he grew up in the area. We're moving to Suffolk in a few months, so I'll be on the lookout for good places near Bury / Stowmarket, specially places without too much woody stuff to get tangled in the spaniel show coats....
My Mum lives in Lavenham and there are lovely walks round there as it's nearly all crop growing so few animals about and lots of wide headlands round the fields to walk. There are also lots of dissused airfields you can walk on. Not many hedges in Suffolk !!! Aileen
> the park in Ipswich town centre if it has another name
probably Christchurch Park, Wonder if you want to say where you are coming to, I am about 1/2 way between Bury & Diss and we tend to take the dog 'over the border' into Norfolk quite a lot but I can always suggest other places........ pm me if you don't want to say too much on forum. Chris
Im guessing anyone taking their dogs to Ipswich for the week next week is going to Dogs in Need agility show which is a week long agility show, im going myself. Could be wrong though. If that is the case there is loads of walking in woodland with a stream etc opposite the showground, you can walk for miles without seeing a soul.
I know that there is walking outside the showground but it is always very busy over there. (Have never managed to find the quiet bit in 5 years of going!) I also wanted a few walks off site for my old boy.
really? once you get beyond the big field and the woods directly next to them there are lovely little boarded footpaths near a stream and also farm footpaths you dont see hardly anyone.
What dogs do you have ? you cant miss me I have two Irish Setters and a baby !!
3 GSDS. We are pretty 'spotable' as we have a long haired black and two sable boys. The youngest is a very small shep and we frequently get asked if he is crossed with anything lol.
How do you get onto the footpaths? Right to the end of the field and then to the left corner or right?
Thanks Chris, yes I mean Christchurch Park. We have our eye on a house in a village halfway between Bury & Stowmarket, but it could easily fall through yet! I have to find somewhere where they can have at least a short run offlead, bearing in mind one is a greedy scavenging monster, and another one is a conveniently deaf (and now a little really deaf) sex obsessed idiot! :-)
