how do you go about setting up your own dog show and not just a companion show, i was going to see if teh local village would help set one up, this will be fith companion show, and im sure they would have an open show if they put teh money to a charity or something in eth village.

so do you know how to set one up, i will have a would when we are at teh companion show tomorrow. but my flick cant go she is in season so teh to little ones(cross breeds) will be winning. i hope

I believe you'd need to be an officially KC-approved Canine Society to be able to hold an Open Show.

If you want cross breeds to enter then it'll only be a companion or fun show that you can organise.
As its for the local village then i would go for a fun or companion show so that all can enter otherwise even if you could get an open show running only pedigree dogs would be able to enter and then months in advance as per the open shows which are running right now. Way too much effort and planning just for the village. Keep it fun and light hearted.
I'm in the process of hopefully with a few members on here organising eithe a fun or companion show for our local village.
There must be many people on here who have organised and run these before.

I may well be wrong (Often am!!) but I believed that to hold a companion show with pedigree classes you had to have a KC licence? A fun dog show with FUN classes ie dog with waggiest tail, prettiest bitch etc. can be run by anyone but to run pedigree (Even if not registered) must be run under licence? Forgive me if I am wrong. Also I was lead to believe that if you competed in such a show that was not licenced you may jepardise your chances at future showing in KC reg Open et. shows? Please correct me if I am wrong.

We were speaking about companion shows at ringcraft just as class broke up for summer and were told this too.

The KC has all details on companion shows on their website.
From what i recall reading you can obtain such a licence direct from them at £10, i may be wrong in reading what i did the other day.

This is what i trawled through and then into the links as well.

I am not sure but do think you would need to form a club and have a committee. Then draw up rules within the guidelines of the kennel club and apply to become a registered club.

I would say you are definitly right in your assumption of what is required to run this type of show.
generally there are about five pedigree classes and as many as you like of the pet variety.
having judged afew of this tpye. They can be alot of fun all you need is the Sun!!
A kennel Club licence is a Must.

Also you have to have insurance if you were to run a companion show
