I've just got a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy, my sister went to pick it up on Thursday, and I noticed as soon as I saw the puppy that her right eye wouldn't open properly. Took her to the vets as soon as I could yesterday, and the vet said it looks like "Dry Eye".
Dry Eye is a lifelong affliction which my parents can't really afford to treat, is there a chance the "Dry Eye" is simply an infection which will clear up rather than the inherited condition? She's a lovely little puppy but it would be unfair on my retired parents to have a puppy that came straight from the breeder needing expensive medication for the rest of her life.
The Puppy came straight from the breeder with her poorly eye, but my sister never noticed. The Breeder is supposedly reputable, so would I have any comeback?
The little puppy was supposed to have had a vet check before the breeder released the puppies so surely they should have noticed? Surely the breeder should have noticed the eye was poorly.

I would have a chat with the breeder , a reputable breeder would want you to be happy with your puppy. It is possible the pup scratched its eye in transit ,anything is possible. As with human babies they can have a problem one day and be 100% the next with minimal treatment. Vets can be wrong too ,so time will be needed to discover the true problem. Approaching the breeder now may prevent you spending money on expensive tests etc if it is a simple problem. If it does turn out to be dry eye ,it cannot be said that you didn't keep her informed and give her a chance to make some sugestions of recompense.I am not sure dry eye would show up so soon but then I'm not a vet. Good Luck I hope puppy recovers and your worries disappear.
Dry Eye is normally hormon related. My eldest bitch (spayed) has Dry Eye and other than just making sure that it's kept clean, regularly bathing it with cold black tea it's been little or no problem.
I'd be in contact with the breeder to voice your concerns.
