Topic Dog Boards / Health / Amber's doing fine
- By LouSalo [gb] Date 26.11.02 08:39 UTC
Hi All
Many thanks to those that replied to my post last night about Amber's reaction to her 12 week jab.
I have just phoned the vet and she's FINE - yippeeeeeeee. I was shaking like a leaf when I rang.
I upset myself on the phone. They need to keep her in for a couple more hours this morning just to do a couple of checks to see if they need to give her any medication. They are also going to contact the medical company who supply the vaccination to let them know what's happened.
I am just SO relieved. I've had a terrible night's sleep (if you can call it a sleep!), but all's well. I could even hear her in the background barking to get out the cage - I think that's what upset me cos I knew it was her even before the nurse told me. Isn't it funny how you know your dogs own cry/bark? just like having a baby :)
Thanks everyone
Relieved of Hemel!

I can imagine she is:o :D Sooo pleased for you that's she's okay- I think I could sense your worry in your first post/thread:) So relieved for you she's now fine:) Do they think it's something she'll always have a reaction to? Or is it just the one off?

Hi Stacey
Apparently they are going to do tests on her this morning and will need to find out if they need to give her any medication for it. I'm going to ask if it's something they think will happen each year she has her booster. I know next year I'm going to be really worried as to whether she should have it done or not. Hopefully it's just a one off though.
Am picking her up at 11 this morning. Can't wait to get her back home.

I've got some photo's of what she looked like last night if anyone's interested in seeing them. It might also help others if it happens to their dog (hopefully it won't!).

Hi Lisa,

Really glad to hear that your pup is ok, especially as ours will be going for their 10wk jags in two weeks !

Regarding yearly boosters there has been a lot of debate on the neccessity for them on this board and elsewhere. I am in two minds about them now.
Type "vaccination" into the search facility above for other threads about this if your interested.

Delighted things seem ok though. :)

Hi
Thanks for the info. Will check it out. I actually went on the internet last night and found some alarming reports on the yearly vaccinations. However, Sheba, our previous dog, had her boosters every year and they didn't seem to affect her at all.
Lisa

PS: I hope I haven't worried you about your pup now. Please don't worry. I'm sure that it is very rare when things like this happen. What type of dog is it? Just being nosey!

Two Yellow Labs collect them on Friday .... excited me ?

You betcha ! ;)

I'm not that worried about the jags as I know that reactions are fairly uncommon and the benefits definitely outweigh the risks, our last Labrador had them (and yearly boosters) with no apparant side effects.

Hi Lisa, thank god for that! - I was worrying for you as well!! I think once your dog has had a reaction to the vaccine once ,then they are not able to have that vaccine again, I could be wrong - so speak to your vet - or someone else on here may have had the same reaction. I know that you can 'vaccinate' homeopathically using nosodes, as quite of few of the dogs at my obedience club are 'vaccinated' this way! I'm sure your vet will be able to advise you though! I'm so pleased she is ok! julie:)

Good to hear your little one is o.k. :)

Hi all, here are links on info for vacc/boosters. It is my understanding that once a dog/pup has a reaction to vaccine then they are highly likely to have other reactions if vaccinated again. I found out after lots of research & talking to experts on this subject. Its a decision not to be taken lightly & onlt after thorough research, what ever you decide to do.

Just to say I fully agree with Christine's comments.

(I have just posted on your previous thread - should have put it here - sorry !! :)

Hi Julie
Thanks for thinking of us. It really has made us wonder if it's worth having her vaccinated next year. I don't want to go through that again. Maybe next year it might be worth us asking the vet if he can vaccinate homeopathically like you suggest? We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Just glad she's home now :)
