Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Puppies??

Ok My Female dog looks like she is showing signs of pregnancy. The only signs I see so far is her nipples are huge and sagging.
I haven't seen her bleed in the last few months so I don't think she was in heat. Is it possible for her to get pregnant when she is not in heat?
Could this just be a hormonal aging thing?
I'll try to post a pic later if that will help.

Thanks!

hi has you girl been near a male entire dog? She can only become pregnant if she has had and season and has ovulated, and if an entire male has mated with her?

Well she has been running so I'm not sure. I can only guess. I was just wondering if it is possible for her to get pregnant if she is not in heat?

> Well she has been running

Do you mean you allow her out unsupervised?  That is so irresponsible on so many levels.

Bitches can have silent seasons with no blood but all the other signs, and become pregnant, also bitches can have very convincing false/phantom pregnancies.

Surely you would know if she had been near entire dogs??

I would take her to the Vet for an ultrasound, but then if the pregnancy is less than a month or the vet inexperienced it can be inconclusive..

if she has been roaming around unsupervised, and is in season i would be very worried as to what has mated with her, especially if it was a much larger breed then her :( i think that if you are not sure she is in season and she has been allowed to roam unsupervised :( then a visit to the vets is essential :|

I very much hope you mean she has been running off lead and playing with dogs on walks.  If this is the case, when mated dogs generally tie for 20 minutes- more than enough time for you to notice what was going on!

No a dog cannot get pregnant if she is not in heat, but seasons can sometimes be clear with no blood at all.  You have to know when shes due in season and keep a keen eye out for other signs.  Not all bitches are every 6 months, some are every 3 months, and some 8 months.  When was your dogs last season, and what is her gap between them?  I have heard of dogs getting pregnant up to day 23 instead of the normal 11-13.  (This is rare)

If she has been out alone as posted above this is very irresposible and can cause medical problems if the pups are to big to be born naturally.  A point to remember is that your insurance doesn't cover C sections.  Not only that, but an in season bitch off lead with no supervision can lead two normally placid males to have a horrific dog fight.

Yes she has been running on walks. And there is a male dog that come's with this guy to work witch happens to be behind my house.
So I found him in the yard one day but they were not connected and I saw him as he was cumming into the yard. So it wasn't then, but every chance she has she runs to see him, soooo very possible.
But I don't think she was in heat at the time. She is only 11 months. And I have only seen one viable bleeding heat around 9 months. But its been a while scene that wouldn't she have popped by now??
Or wouldn't there would be definite signs of puppy's in her belly buy now??
Her back nipples are saggy, but nothing else. She's still eating and drinking plenty. Any advice if she is pregnant would be great. This will be my second litter. But first unexpected litter, I'll keep you all posted!
Thanks for all the help!!

P.S.
I have fixed the problem of the male dog getting into the yard too. So no worry's there!

At 11 months old?  Take her to your Vet.  Get her scanned and then if she is pregnant, have an injection to terminate the pregnancy or get her spayed if you cannot keep her safe from being mated.

I would take her to the vet to be spayed and removed any puppies if she is pregnant making life easier for yourself and safer for you bitch in the future.
Please be more careful and dont allow you bitch to roam... in the UK it is against the law.  I get the impression you are not in the UK .

yes i agree with everyone take to the vets, she is far too young to have puppies yet, for her health please take her to the vets. I assume you have another female dog if you have already had a litter?

If she was in season at 9 months and is now 11, then yes she was mated then and would expect her to have them any moment now, it is 9 weeks gestation so add up from when she was in season.  Though could also be a phantom.
