Been helping an experienced friend with a mating for the last 2 days & the stud is showing no interest at all. I thought it'd be a wham bam kinda thing but have seen nothing for the last 2 days. Im really suprised at the amount of work & supervision so far. My mates far more patient than I & is laughing at my reaction. Great experience for me so far but an awful lot of work, any idea or stories of how long this could take. Great learning curve for me........
Its not for the faint hearted thats for sure its more work than a lot realise must admit longest try for me was 3 days i was wrecked after that but my boy was novice , maybe the bitch is just not quite ready has she been premated , if he is experienced he will know went the time is right maybe its not quite time.
Ya the boy is a novice as well this time. She looks ready to me & my mate seems to think the same. Plenty of flirting going on but the stud isnt the sharpest by the looks of it! Must admit im enjoying it & its great hands on experience if I do breed in the future
longest for my girl was 3 days :) we had a premate test done and it was all systems go! We had to travel to stud dog, my girl had been mated before, so she knew what to do, however the stud had mated before only the once and he just did not seem interested! Lots of flirting but no mounting! My girl seemed to get a bit frustrated and mounted him to show him how its done! :) finally on the 3rd day just as the stud dog owner and i was just going to give up, he did it! And a good 15 minute tie to suit! :)
My last litter we took maiden bitch up to her intended on day 12, the stud was pleased to see her on introduction but after that they were 'just friends'.
On day 16 a premate test showed she was only just coming up to ovulation, she was mated days 18 - 20 with desired results two months later on Christmas day.
