went for check up on my little girl, she has a week to go vets were really concerned, because she is carring a huge amount of fluid, that much you cant feel the pups moving, can anybody shed some light on this "hydrops allantois" for me so i know what to expect i.e symptoms thast something is wrong, what causes it , any info will be great many thanks

Had a look on google you may want to do the same , seems very rare in dogs more common in cows and horses.
I would read up on it as it seems quite complicated and needs careful watching. Hope all goes well for your girl
do you have the link? please many thanks will try and see what symptoms to look out for..sandra

tbh it is probably best to google the condition then take your pick none of links I found explain much about dogs apart from it can happen in cats and dogs but do say things about cattle and horses ,read a few. I would expect your vet to want to keep a very clse watch on her if this what he is thinking as it appears to be very very rare saying that few vets see it at all during their working life.
thank you for your help, yes we are booked in on thursday. so see what he thinks then..sandra

Found this
Abnormalities of fetal or placental fluids include hydrops, an excessive accumulation of allantoic fluid associated with each fetus, causing the fetal unit to be markedly oversized.

How is your girl doing?

hi there she has started going off her food, the vets have given me a/d hills prescription diet, which i have to syringe into her mouth, yesterday was the 1st day i actually felt the pups move, vets said as long as she is not depressed,or any discharge, then to leave her she is due on saturday being her 1st mating, and has another vets appointment on thursday, she is a small breed ( dont know if im allowed to mention what breed) her stomach is 27 inches round, she normally weighs 7kg and is now sitting at 11.6 kg with most of that being fluid, the vet says the only thing he is worried about is her not starting contractions herself which if thats happens means a c-section, many thanks for enquiring about kola, im up to high doe about it all .oh whit a tangled web we weave lol
